Instructions This is a simple beginning rhyming activity to be done with a teacher. 1. Line up the picture cards on a rug or table and name each animal. 2. Have the child repeat the name to ensure that he knows the animal. 3. Take one of the riddle cards and read it slowly. A child whose ear is ready will be able to provide the rhyming animal name. A child who cannot hear the rhyme yet will not respond. You can offer a clue by saying the initial sound and giving the child a chance to complete the word. If the child cannot do this, the teacher provides the rhyming word. For example: “I rhyme with pen. I am a hen. Pen, hen, they rhyme.” 4. Have the child place the riddle card below/next to the appropriate picture card.
