Chapter 1 – What is Drawing? The Oxford dictionary defines the word drawing as a skill or art of making drawings. It can also be defined as the creation of artistic drawings. A type or form of visual work of art in which an individual uses different types of drawing equipments to work on a piece of paper or any form of two dimensional type of medium. The use of paper is however the easiest form of base for drawing Various drawing equipments and mediums serve different purposes and outputs when used for drawing. Before deciding on which medium you want to make use of, you need to have a clear understanding of the goal of the output you want to achieve. This means you have to create a definite goal for your expression. For example, when you work with a graphite pencil, your experience is quite different from working with a charcoal, oil pastel, pen or even coloured pencils. Some Drawing instruments include: Pen and ink Graphite pencils Inked brushes Wax colour pencils Crayons Charcoal Chalk Erasers Markers styluses Metals e.g. silver point metals. Electronic drawing equipment
Some other materials are also quite convenient like cardboard. Some others bring out peculiar unique designs when done nicely like in the case of leather, board or canvas. There are other methods of drawings that are done on temporary structures. This means they could be changed or cleaned after some time. Such mediums of temporary expressions are blackboards and whiteboards. On a wider scale one can say temporary drawings can be made on virtually anything. The levels of expression are often what defers or makes the drawings to posses the levels of longevity that they posses. Over time, drawing has been recognized as a very fundamental and popular method of the publics’ expressions of opinions. Drawing can be very simple and also quite complex. It is one of the most efficient methods of communicating visual expressions. It is very easy to view a drawing and get messages that are conveyed by the simple or complex strokes. Messages are passed and received more easily with drawings than with written words. The act of drawing has made available a very wide combination of equipments and materials. These have created a wide medium of explorations within the human race.
Chapter 2 – Developing the Right Learning Frame of Mind
It can be rightly said that learning some very practical acts like drawing can be very difficult without having a practical teacher right by your side. Using books and tutorials found online can be sort of abstract. What you have are guides and instructions at your disposal. This can be difficult in terms of the steps to follow but with a right approach to the process. It can be proved to be as good as or even better than having a human teacher right beside you or working with you to guide you every step of the way. The most important thing that you need to take note of is that learning is a process. The process of learning includes several processes. Making mistakes is a part of the process of learning. In learning how to draw, you need to bear this in mind. Have a positive attitude towards your mistakes. Let them make you make you stronger and better and not overwhelmed and discouraged. The key to overcoming this challenge is by learning to view your work with fresh critical eyes each time. You are permitted to feel proud in the right sense at your progress each time you are able to create a fresh drawing. Do not allow little flaws to spoil your satisfaction and joy of accomplishment. Always remember that we need mistakes because mistakes are the ingredients that help us learn and become better.
Chapter 3 – Pencil Grades
To begin with your fundamental pencil drawing skills, you will need to gather together some materials for your use. The first thing you need to do is have a compilation of the right types of pencils for your workings. Varieties in Pencils The first thing you need to understand as someone who wants to learn and succeed in the act of drawing is that there are different types of pencils. As much as a pencil is a piece of instrument used for drawing, there are several types of shades for this piece of equipment. It is important to know this fact from the beginning and work with this understanding. Number Representations on Pencils for Drawing When you take a look at any or at least most pencils, you will usually see a number and a letter beside the number. Examples are 2B, HB, 6H etc. These identifications mean something. These numbers are used to represent the hardness of the graphite core. This means the higher the number range, the harder the graphite core. Therefore, the harder the core, the lighter the mark you are able to make when the pencil is put to use on paper or on the medium. The lower the number level, the softer the core. This means a darker imprinting will be left on print. Softer pencils become dull faster soon enough. What Alphabet “H” or B Represent on Pencils Generally, the “B” indicates blackness while “H” indicates lightness (hardness) if you are unable to get dark shadows in your drawing and the picture is somehow too
pale, check the type of pencil you are using. For example, a low numbered pencil with the “B” like a 2B will produce dark effects when used. “H” on the other hand like 6H will give very hard graphite. HB pencils are too hard for drawing. They will leave much lighter imprints. Softer Pencils are Great for Cartoon Works When working on a delicate highly detailed piece of work, like a cartoon piece, you will want to make use of a harder textured pencil. This means you make use of a pencil that has lighter shades. You will be able to produce lines that are finer and lighter. These will ultimately help you create more detailed types of drawings. A cartoon piece requires the use of softer pencils to create strong lines. Softer Pencils are Easier to Erase It’s important to note that softer pencils are easier to erase their marks from the paper when you make a mistake. It is easier to erase off marks from paper. Soft Pencils are best for Creating Temporary lines When you want do sketch and you intend to erase later, it is best to use a soft pencil. Although hard pencils produce softer lines, they have a harder surface. This can indent a paper where the pencil has been used. Understanding the Various levels and forms of variations There are different types of pencil grades available for you to make your choice from. Sometimes too, the pencil grade of a brand could be different from another brand. This happens in some cases even if they are of the same number. It is therefore ideal to select a case of your pencils that have different grades. Or you choose individual pencils from the same company. This will help you get a combination of pencil grades and ranges that are of divers ranges and compilations that best suits your needs.
Use of Right Paper For Drawing Using the wrong paper for drawing can make your drawing to have a pale look about it. Some cheap papers tend to have a sheen about it that is too smooth. The pencil particles can’t be held by the pencil during a drawing process. Try making use of the usual photocopying or office paper. You can check any art stores for sketching paper. To get a firm surface, place a piece of card behind a few of these drawing sheets. Uneven texture behind your work will give a coarse background for working on. Try using a hot pressed Bristol panel or something similar to that. Sketchbook A good artist is always ready at any time for any piece of inspiration that may drop into his or her senses at anytime. Learn to take a sketchbook with you wherever and whenever. This is very important. As a beginner, you need to be able to frequent your practice times. Take every opportunity you find to do some drawing practices with objects or subjects that come across your part or mind or even imagination. When you have a ready sketchbook with you at anytime, practicing becomes very easy for you. Your sketchbook should be very handy. It should be able to fit into your pocket. Line Variations When involved in the act of drawing you need to understand that there are different types of lines and they all have different purposes. Line variations have their place. Each type of line serves a particular purpose. Using Light Outlines A drawing is usually made up of two layers of outlines. The first outline is lighter. It is lighter because it is meant to serve as a guideline in creating your basic shapes. When you start your drawing practices, begin with a harder pencil. This choice will help you when creating your lines especially the lighter outlines.
In order to create this technique you need to use less pressure while you press down your pencil on and draw with a slow and smooth movement. You will need to erase some of your lines as you proceed with your drawing so you need to know when to make use of outlines and the types of lines that will help you move freely and easily within and along your drawing. Using Heavy Outlines You create a heavy outline after your light outline to define the edges of your piece. Start this by retracing the initial lighter outlines while adding more pressure as you proceed. You still need to be careful so as not to press down your device too hard thereby creating errors that will require frequent erasing Hatching and Cross-Hatching Hatching technique is done with the creation of little lines that are drawn close to each other. Often times this technique is used when shading across a piece of artwork. Drawing these lines across in one direction to follow the form of the object helps define the drawing better. Cross-hatching lines are used to create looks that are classified as more realistic. You are able to add more value and dept to your drawings with the use of cross-hatching. To achieve this, draw hatching lines towards one direction and then your crosshatched lines are made over them towards the opposite directions. The tightness and closeness achieved with these lines is what creates the realistic look. It will make it so hard to see the pencil strokes. Circular Method of Drawing Creating circles and scribbling are very beautiful ways of creating contrasts in the textures within drawings especially when objects have a resemblance in value. In order to create this form of technique, you need to create tiny little circles. Move your pencil in a swirl like motion. You will like to keep these circles and the swills tightly and firmly together. This is very good for blending and shading your
drawing together tightly. You can easily create a group of swills while you continue pressing down on your pencil hold to create a darker value and blend both values together. Smooth Blend Shading There are a couple of methods you can adopt in creating a smooth blend of shading across your shading. The first method involves the use of your pencil in creating smooth blended strokes close to one another. For good result, use the side of your pencil as your form your lines.
Random Sketching of your Surroundings and Environment Whenever you find the opportunity or just moving around, try sketching your environment and surroundings. Sketch anything and everything. The more you do this, the more you become better with your drawings, besides, sketching randomly does a lot of good to your skill developments procedure. It will help you take off the pressure of trying to get everything perfectly and rightly for your painting and also help you make this some valuable time for practice.
Chapter 4 – Quick Drawing and Pencil Tutorial Tips Here is a quick tutorial that you can practice as a basic start off point. It is quite easy to follow. Mastering some basic techniques for using your pencils for sketching will definitely come in handy for your figuring out how you can create different tones and shades on your work by using your pencil. You will be able to learn ways in which you can create different textures and shapes on your drawings.
Pencil Tutorial 1 - with Image Reference Image of Reference
First you need to choose the image you would like to make use of as your reference image. That is, what image do you want to base your own drawing on as a lookalike? As a beginner, you can make use of a photograph as your image of reference. This is because a photograph is static, it won’t move. It will remain the same. Unlike a live or moving object that can change position or structure during your process of drawing.
Create an Outline Of your Image
As mentioned earlier, simply use your pencil to make an outline of the shape of the reference image. At this point you don’t need to be exact. Simply create an outline.
Add Tone and Texture
When you have put down your basic sketched outlines and you are happy with the result, it is time to move a step further by adding tones and textures. You do this by adding to the toning and texture levels around the drawing. Your texture and tone additions should be light and not too dark for a start.
Refining Your Drawing
Start refining your drawing with the use of different pencil marks in order to make areas either darker or lighter in shade and tone. Make use of a variety of pencil tones that will help show the colour even while in a white and black piece. Begin slowly and too hardly at the beginning of your refining process. This is because it is easier to begin slowly and progress rather than begin on a high note and find it difficult to make amendments when the image has been fully developed. Take a pause from time to time to have a look at your image construction from a distance. Observing from a distance will help you observe which areas you need to shade the more or which areas you need to reduce your shading intensity.
Drawing Tutorial 2 – without Image Reference. Here is a simple drawing based on your imagination Create Your Image Outline
As with the first tutorial, you need to create the outline of the image you want to produce on paper. Your outline has to be soft to allow room for any erasing and correcting.
Use Bolder Outlines
Next is to make bolder outlines on your initial light outlines of your drawing. This means the pressure is stronger on the paper. The outlines are more permanent in this case.
Shading
In shading your drawing, turn your pencil a little bit on an angled position so that the side of the pencil is touching the paper. Draw the pencil forth and back without having to lift the pencil from the paper
Hatching
This is done like the forward and backward shading. But in the case of hatching, you make use of the pencil point. You draw the pencil lines in one direction. You also lift and bring it down on the paper as you do so. Each line next to the previous line drawn.
Cross Hatching As soon as you have drawn your hatched area lines, make another set of hatched lines. This time the lines are drawn in the opposite direction just on top. Adding Dimensions Cross hatching is great for adding dimension to different areas of an artwork.
Scrumbling
This word is used to describe drawing that includes the drawing of little loops to create texture in areas of your work. Scrumbling is used for blending the tones and the shadings made together.
Chapter 4 – Drawing Assessment Tips When you draw, you can only get better if you are able to assess your work by yourself and with your own efforts. Be your own critic. Do not shy away from this as it will help you develop your skills better and faster.
Here are some tips that will help you with your learning how to draw and get good and better with this skill. Best Tips to help you assess your work For you to have the best results in assessing your work: Select Some of Your works For Critical Assessments Make a selection of a few of your work that you have done recently. Place them together side by side. Study the tasks. How they look, observe what you see. The deliberate selection is a process on its own that you need to carry out sometimes.
Be Specific and not General in Your Assessments When assessing your work, have it at the back of your mind that you are not doing a general assessment per time. You will not be able to get a good critical review if you do a general assessment per time. Rather concentrate on one or two aspects to observe in your drawing per time. If you want to look at your lines, do just that per time. Look out for errors based on specific aspects. Determine the effect of these errors on the specific aspects under review. Choose a few points to concentrate on per time the next time you want to carry out a drawing process.
Don’t try Fixing Too Many Errors Per Time Avoid the mistake of trying to fix all the errors at the same time. Choose and
concentrate on a few fixings at a time. This is the best way you can get the best results.
Enjoy Your Skill Research has often revealed that skills that come out the best are the ones that are developed out of the pleasures derived from doing them. It is often best to simply enjoy your drawing process. Don’t be too critical, simply enjoy it. Enjoy the fun grow your passion and let it unleash your creative ability.
Trouble with Flash Photography This is often the main cause of problems that beginners have with their drawings. The use of flash in photography does more of flattening the features and provides you with an elusive view to work with. When the person is facing you, it becomes very difficult to see the way the face is modeled as the perspective disappears behind their head. Rather make use of natural lighting to get the best result. Natural lighting will help you get good skin tones and a natural expression that shows their real personality.
Drawing Upside Down Drawing upside down has a good advantage on your imaginative and coordinative senses. Simply turn your papers upside down. Also turn the image you want to draw upside down if you have one of reference. The trick is that your brain is tricked into what it is actually seeing rather than what it assumes it is seeing is there.

Introduction Thank you for downloading “Homemade Shampoos: 22 Tips on How to Make Homemade Shampoos For Damaged and Hair Without Shine”! I am so excited to share what I have learned as a cosmetologist, as well what I have learned on my homeopathic journey in my approach to beauty. A few years ago, I was working in a popular, well respected hair salon. Part of my salary depended on selling my clients professional hair care products. Shortly into my time there, a friend had introduced me to more of a natural, homeopathic lifestyle. As I learned more about the dangerous chemicals found in beauty products, specifically shampoos, I began to question selling these products. I was building a client base, and they were placing their trust in me as a trained professional, to advise them on the best products to use on their hair. A week or so later, I met a new client and friend named, Sophie. She was a breast cancer survivor. Sophie had lost her hair during her cancer treatment, and was eager to begin caring for her newly grown in hair. After I trimmed her hair, she scanned our shelves of products, asking me what I thought would be best for her hair. I knew that the products we offered and products offered in drug stores were not “good” products for her fragile hair. I brought her back to my chair and pulled out a small notepad and jotted down a simple, homemade shampoo recipe for her. She looked at me skeptically. I told her to trust me, follow my recipe and to give it a couple of weeks and then to call me to let me know how her hair was feeling. A few weeks later, she called me and was thrilled that her hair was growing in thicker and shiny. At that moment, I knew what I really wanted to do – and what I needed to do. I left the salon and began my own practice that focused solely on natural and homeopathic approaches to beauty.
In this book, I am going to teach you about making your own shampoo at home and why it’s more beneficial than all the expensive products on the market. Then we will focus on specific problem areas for your hair, such as dry hair, oily hair and hair that has lost it’s luster. Then I will teach you all about what I call a miracle shampoo – dry shampoo. I will provide you with 22 specific recipes that are 100% natural and that are higher quality shampoos than you’d find in the drug store or hair salon. These are simple, affordable ingredients that can easily be found. Better yet, after using these homemade shampoos for a few weeks, your hair will be in better condition than it ever has been! Your friends and family will wonder what your secret is!
Chapter 1 – Homemade Shampoos 101 Having luxurious, beautiful, healthy hair doesn’t have to cost you a fortune. As a cosmetologist, I was taught to cross sell and up sell expensive hair treatments and products. We were taught to caution customer against purchasing hair products in their local drug store, and purchase “professional” hair products only sold in salons. What stylists won’t tell you is the same “professional” hair care products sold in their salons are just as damaging as drug store brands. You just pay triple and sometimes quadruple the price for them! Even shampoos out there that boast that they do not contain parabens or sulfates still have harmful chemicals in them. Once I was introduced to a more homeopathic lifestyle, I began to really question these products I once sold to unsuspecting clients and do my research. What I discovered completely changed how I treat my own hair, as well as my clients’. I adopted a whole new natural approach to hair care. And through the years, many people in the industry have come to realize just how much more safer and effective using naturally made shampoos and other hair tonics are for you. So why should I make my own shampoo? Well, one big reason is that you know exactly what you are putting onto your hair and scalp. It’s also extremely affordable to make your own shampoo. What I personally love about it, is experimenting and finding new formulas specific to a particular problem I may be encountering, such as dry hair. Having the option to customize the right shampoo for your hair, use natural ingredients and pay less than $1 to do so are huge selling points for me. What I also found, was that these natural shampoos actually clean a whole lot better than the shampoo available on the market. Sure, shampoos on the market lather much better.
But it’s because they have more chemicals in them to create that lather. Market research has shown that people perceive shampoos that lather well and leave your hair squeaky clean, means that you hair is clean and healthy. The truth is, those chemicals used to create the lather are harsh and strip away natural oils that keep your hair well moisturized and shiny. Before we get into the coming chapters, I want to discuss common ingredients, or what I like to call “base ingredients”, that make up homemade shampoo. As you continue to read ahead, you will discover the following common ingredients.
Castile Soap Named for the historical region of Spain, Castile soap is made from plant oils. It comes in both bar form and liquid. Years ago, castile soap was made from olive oil, but today both forms are made with all type of vegetable oils, such as olive, palm, hemp, jojoba and hemp. This soap isn’t made with any harsh chemicals or cleansers. To make the liquid form of the soap you will see in the coming chapters, the plant oils are mixed with potassium hydroxide (lye) and go through a natural processing. Once the soap is diluted, the natural glycerin left behind is what is used to make the soap. I know many people who make castile soap at home, however, I caution anyone considering making it from scratch to really educate themselves on the process. Working with lye can get a bit tricky. You can purchase castile soap through many online retailers, as well as your local health food store or organic grocer.
Aloe Vera Aloe Vera can be found in your local grocery store, are sold in potted plants for home use or can be grown in your garden. In shampoo, aloe vera is renowned for its soothing abilities. Honey You will find honey used as a common ingredient in the coming chapters. Raw honey is a natural antifungal and antibacterial. Honey controls frizz, but doesn’t strip natural oils away from your hair and scalp. Since it is slightly acid, it balances the natural oils in your hair and fights off dandruff at the same time.
Essential Oils In almost shampoo or tonic recipe in this book, you will see that it calls for essential oils. Essential oils are what I call the powerhouse in these recipes, because while they are small in volume in the recipes, they pack a whole lot of punch. Derived from plants into super concentrated liquids, these small drops of oil are powerful. Not only do these oils provide an amazing, fresh scent to your hair, they help promote healing and growth for your hair. You will find that some essential oils are good for any hair type, and that you can customize your shampoos with specific essential oils that will treat targeted problem areas. Have some fun educating yourself about essential oils and feel free to swap in your favorites in place of the ones listed in the recipes that follow. Now that you have an understanding of why homemade shampoos and their basic ingredients, let’s get started targeting specific hair conditions.
Chapter 2 – Damaged Dry Hair Repair Recipes Damaged, dry hair can cause your hair to look dull and lead to many bad hair days. Along with dry hair, comes a dry scalp. If you have dry hair, you are likely battling dandruff, too. There are many conditions that can cause your hair to dry out. Let’s take a look at the most common and let’s talk about how we can combat them: 1. Over washing your hair, or using shampoos with harsh chemicals. As you already know, this is why I don’t like salon or store bought shampoos. Far too often, manufacturers add drying ingredients and chemicals into shampoos – even shampoos for dry hair. Use homemade shampoos, specifically designed for dry, damaged hair. We will explore my favorite recipes later in this chapter. 2. You brush your hair when it’s wet. Hair is at its most fragile state when wet and is more prone to breakage. Always use a wide tooth comb when your hair is wet rather than a hair brush. Air dry your hair as often as possible. 3. You use heated tools to style your hair, such as blow dryers, flat irons and/or curling irons. Try to keep the heated tool use to a minimum. If you must use heat to style your hair, use heat protection before doing so. 4. You have over processed hair. Any kind of chemical relaxers, perms or highlights will cause your hair to dry a bit. Constantly getting your hair highlighted (since you are achieving that lift with bleach) is a sure fire way to dry out your hair. Let your hair rest some by avoiding chemical treatments. Be certain to cut your hair at least every other month so you do not have dry, split ends. This will help prompt new growth of healthy hair. 5. You have been exposed to harsh elements, such as dry air, sun, chlorine (from pools), etc. If you like to swim in chlorinated pools, consider wearing a swim cap. Wear hats and bandanas over your hair when you will be in super dry heat or in the sun for long periods of time. 6. You’ve gotten too many smoothing treatments done. Smoothing treatments are great to do once in awhile, but over doing it can cause a build up of protein on your
hair and dry it out. Give your hair break for a few months. If you have a protein build up, consider using a clarifying shampoo. We discuss these specialty shampoos later in the book. 7. You have a medical condition. Hormonal changes, medications or other health issues can cause your hair to dry out. If you have tried to correct the issue and still haven’t made progress, see your doctor to rule out any medical causes. Let’s take a look at my favorite tried and tested homemade shampoo recipes for dry, damaged hair and dandruff.

Chapter 3 – Oily Hair Repair Recipes I’ve worked with many clients who have had the unfortunate experience of having greasy and oily hair at one time or another. Oily hair is caused by the overproduction of sebum in the scalp, which is an oil your scalp produces naturally to protect your hair. Greasy, oil hair and make your hair look flat, limp and lifeless. It can also produce a faint unpleasant odor. The problem is, when you have greasy hair, your first instinct is wash it everyday. When you wash your hair too often (such as every day) or use products with harsh chemicals that build up on your hair, each time you wash the oils away, you naturally produce more sebum to protect your hair. So the constant washing becomes a vicious cycle of stripping natural oils away, only to wake up the next morning with even oilier hair. So how do you break the cycle? First, you need to stop washing your hair every day. Second, when you do wash your hair, you need to wash your hair with the right shampoo. Below are some additional tips to get oily tresses under control: 1. After washing your hair, make sure you remove any product that is clinging to your hair by rinsing thoroughly. Product that is left in your hair will promote a greasier feel. To avoid this, rinse for around a half hour and use cool water. Doing this will remove any remaining product. 2. Try not to touch your hair as much. Avoid running your fingers through your hair. Natural oils on your hands will deposit onto your hair, making it greasier. 3. Use a dry shampoo in between days you don’t wash your hair. I consider dry shampoos one the best beauty products every invented! We will talk about this in depth in Chapter 5. 4. At least once a month, you should wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo. Sometimes these are called chelating shampoos. What they do is restore the natural balance of oils to your hair. Sometimes, even when we rinse thoroughly, product
can get built up in our hair. Most of the time we don’t even know it. These shampoos will cleanse away that build up. In this chapter, I am going to provide you with the top homemade shampoos you can use at home to restore balance to your hair. But first, I want to talk about the difference between clarifying and chelating shampoos, since these types of shampoos lend a huge hand in getting the greasiness under control. A clarifying shampoo is a deep cleansing agent that helps remove build up from your hair. It removes styling product build up and residues and dirt, grim and grease. A clarifying shampoo only cleanses the surface of the hair. A chelating shampoo takes cleansing a step further and removes harmful metals and minerals from your hair, which improves your hair’s ability to absorb the first kinds of cleansing products that will make your hair healthier. If you have hard water in your area or swim in chlorinated pools, you will want to consider chelating. Chelating will remove the bad minerals and essentially create a new canvas for your hair. Let’s take a look at some great recipes that will transform your lifeless, dull hair, into beautiful, healthy locks.
Chelating Shampoo Ingredients: 1 teaspoon of Dawn Dish Detergent 1 Lemon sliced in half Directions: Wash hair as you normally would, but use Dawn Dish Detergent in place of your regular shampoo. Focus on lathering your hair at your scalp, all the way down to the ends of the hair. Once you’ve rinsed your hair thoroughly, squeeze each half of the lemon onto your scalp and down the hair to the ends. Rinse with cold water. Note: Dawn Dish Detergent has been used to remove oil from animals affected from oil spills. It does a fantastic job removing oil and grease, but is gentle on the hair.
Clarifying Shampoo Ingredients: 1-2 teaspoons of Baking Soda Some of your Regular Homemade Shampoo Directions: Use your go to regular homemade shampoo and add 1-2 teaspoons of baking soda to it. Lather in hair and rinse thoroughly.
Clarifying Rinse Ingredients: ¼ cup Apple Cider Vinegar 1 cup Water Directions: Mix water and apple cider vinegar together and pour into a spray bottle. After washing hair with your regular go to homemade shampoo, spray onto hair from roots to ends. Rub hair to ensure mixture is evenly distributed throughout hair. Let sit for 10 minutes. Rinse with cold water and follow with a light conditioner.
Tea Tree Shampoo Ingredients: 2 tablespoons of Liquid Castile Soap 1 tablespoon Cosmetic Clay of your Choice 2-3 teaspoons of Brewed, Cooled Black or Green Tea 10 drops of Tea Tree Oil Directions: Combine all ingredients together and store in a dark glass airtight container. The consistency will be lumpy. When ready for use, pour a quarter size portion of product into your hand and lather onto hair and rinse thoroughly.
Lavender Oil Eliminating Shampoo Ingredients: 1/3 cup of Liquid Castile Soap 1/3 cup of Canned Coconut Milk 20 drops of Lavender Essential Oil Directions: Combine all ingredients together and store in pump style shampoo bottle. Shake before each use. Pump about 1-2 teaspoons into hands, lather and apply to scalp. Product will last about a month. Tip: Pair with the Clarifying Rinse recipe above for beautiful, healthy oil free hair.
Aloe Vera Lemon Shampoo Ingredients: 1/2 cup of Liquid Castile Soap 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice 1 ½ teaspoons Fresh Aloe Vera Directions: Combine all ingredients together store in a dark glass airtight container. When ready for use, pour a quarter size portion of product into your hand and lather onto hair and rinse thoroughly.
Chapter 4 – Shine Boosting Tonics & Shampoo Recipes Since the beginning of time, shiny hair has been the symbol of healthy, luxurious hair. Having shiny, healthy hair makes your skin glow, making your face appear more radiant from the reflection of light. What makes hair shine is the hair cuticle laying flat. Instead of spending a lot of money on glazing treatments in the salon or shine treatments bought from the store, you can make the best shampoos and tonics that will smooth your hair and make it radiant. In this chapter, we’re going to learn the basics of hair care that will help you get the most luster, as well as learn about some infallible shampoo and tonic recipes. These recipes are affordable and work even better than expensive products on the market or treatments at the salon. First, let’s review basic hair care habits that will help you on your way to incredible shiny hair. 1. Make sure you are getting your vitamins every day. The condition of our hair and skin tell us whether or not we are getting the nutrients we need. Make sure your diet consists of plenty of protein, carbs and fat. Take a multivitamin every day and talk to your doctor about any types of supplements that would be beneficial for you. 2. Protect your hair from the sun. Over exposure to the sun and dry out hair making it dull and dry. When spending extended time in the sun, cover up your hair with a cute hat or bandana. 3. When washing hair, rinse with cold water. This will help close the hair shaft and help the hair cuticle lay flat. 4. If you can avoid it, don’t use heated tools to style your hair. Or at least minimize it as much as you can. If you flatten your hair, allow your hair to air dry first, rather than use your hairdryer and then flat iron. Always use a heat protect when using heated tools. If you do use your hairdryer, at the end of drying, go over your entire
head with the cool air setting on your hairdryer to close the hair cuticle. Now on to some great homemade shampoos and tonics that will boost your shine!

Beer Shine Tonic Ingredients: 12 ounces Flat Beer Directions: Shampoo hair as normal and rinse thoroughly. Apply beer to hair from roots to ends of hair, massaging into your scalp and hair follicles. Leave in hair for 10 minutes. Rinse with cool water.
Green Tea Shine Shampoo Ingredients: ½ cup Cool Brewed Green Tea ½ cup Liquid Castile Soap 4 teaspoons Fresh Aloe Vera 25 drops Essential Oil (Lemon, Rosemary, Lavender or Bergamot) Directions: Whisk all ingredients together in a bowl. Chapter 5 – Dry Shampoo Recipes It’s not uncommon for me to go 3-4 days without washing my hair. Experts tells us that over cleansing our hair strips away the natural oils from our hair, which in turns dries out our hair and leads to damaged tresses. So how to I work around developing oily and greasy hair after day two of washing my hair? Dry shampoo. Using my homemade dry shampoos saves me time in the morning, allows my styled hair from the day before to last much longer and saves me money. You have probably already seen the two varieties of dry shampoo in your local beauty store: powders and spray. Both versions essentially function the same way, which is to soak up excess oil. Before we look at some foolproof recipes, first let’s go over how to use a dry shampoo correctly. 1. Only use dry shampoo on dry hair. I know many women who start using their dry shampoo the day after they have washed their hair. You can definitely do that, and have great success, but I like to use this little trick. After I wash my hair, I like to apply my dry shampoo lightly to my bangs and side part, focusing only on the roots. I have found that this is very effective because I start the process of soaking up excess oil immediately and I instantly have more volume in my hair, which carries over into the next day. 2. If using a spray, spray at least 6 to 8 inches from your roots to ensure even distribution of the product. If using a powder, sprinkle it lightly onto roots, or apply lightly using a large makeup brush. Focus on your bangs, part, and front sides and back of your head. 3. After applying, allow the product to “set” on your hair for about 5 minutes. Don’t worry if the product looks to light on your hair. Once it sets, you will brush it out, restyle and it will all blend in perfectly.
4. How long you use your dry shampoo is entirely up to you. After 2-3 days of using mine, I like to give my hair a good wash. Your mileage may vary – experiment and see what works for your hair.
Light Hair Dry Shampoo Powder Ingredients: ¼ cup Arrowroot Powder or Finely Ground Oatmeal ¼ cup Baking Soda 8-10 drops Essential Oils (such as bergamot, jasmine, ylang-ylang, or patchouli) Directions: Combine ingredients together and store in a small glass mason jar.
Dark Hair Dry Shampoo Powder Ingredients: ¼ cup Arrowroot Powder or Finely Ground Oatmeal 3 tablespoons of Cocoa Powder 8-10 drops Essential Oils (such as citrus, jasmine or peppermint) Directions: Combine ingredients together and store in a small glass mason jar. Tips about Powders: If you prefer to not add the oils to the powder when combining, simply just combine the powders together and store. After applying the powders and styling hair, rub a drop of essential oil onto your fingers and comb through hair afterwards. You can also add a dab behind your ears and around your neck for the freshly washed hair feel and smell.
Dry Shampoo Spray for All Hair Colors Ingredients: ½ cup Water 2 tablespoons of Arrowroot powder or Cornstarch 1-2 tablespoons of Rubbing Alcohol 5-10 drops of Essential Oils (such as lemon, lime, rosemary or bergamot) Directions: Combine all ingredients into a small spray bottle. Always shake well before each use.
Dry Shampoo Spray for Dark Hair Ingredients: ½ cup Water 1 tablespoons of Cornstarch 2 tablespoons Cocoa Powder ½ teaspoon Ground Cinnamon 2 tablespoons of Rubbing Alcohol 5-10 drops of Essential Oils (such as lemon, lime, rosemary or bergamot) Directions: Combine all ingredients into a small spray bottle. Always shake well before each use.

Chapter 1 – Homemade Body Scrub When it comes to body scrub three basic ingredients are needed, even those you pick from the stores and super markets have these primary ingredients in them. The three main ingredients include: Exfoliant: Exfoliants are gritty ingredients like sugar, salt, oatmeal among others. It is often advisable to use a dissolvent substance like salt or sugar to avoid choking your drain or causing a mess to your tub. In choosing to use sugar, you can either use brown sugar or white sugar. Major prefer using the brown sugar for its nice aroma when mixed with vanilla essential oil. Others also prefer to use coffee for its immense health benefit. The caffeine in coffee is an effective vasoconstrictor helping blood vessels to constrict when applied to the skin. The caffeine in it temporarily helps to reduce rosacea and abnormally swollen veins. Oatmeal seems to be the most gentle among the numerous exfoliant you can think of. It softens in water and hydrates the skin, it is very essential for a dry and itchy skin. There are other numerous options you can try on your own at home. The list cannot be exhausted, there are a lot like groundnut shells, wheat, ground rice, almond meal and many other safe ingredients you can think about and give a try. Base Oil: The base oil holds the mixture together and keeps your skin moisturized. It is advisable to know your skin type; thick greasy base oil is suitable for a dry skin while thin greasy base oil will be suitable for a less dry skin type. Applying thick greasy base oil to a less dry skin makes it difficult to properly wash down Exfoliant thus leaving your skin greasy and stuffy. You can choose from a range of base oil products such as sunflower oil, candle nut oil, grape seed oil and many others.
Fragrance: Add some fragrance to your body scrub. Include sweet scented essential oils to give you a sweet scent, personalize it by mixing a few of these essential oils. Design and create your own body scent; it’s advisable not to avoid synthetic fragrance. Let’s take one of these ingredients and prepare our body scrub. We’ll begin with our all known brown sugar. Ingredients: 1 cup of fine brown sugar 1/3 cup of sunflower oil 1 table spoon of frankincense
Process: Pour the sugar into a small ball, add your sunflower oil and thoroughly stir to achieve a uniform mix. Gradually but continuously add your essential oil while you continue to stir. Continue with the process until you attain a desired sandy moist.

Do it yourself is all about exploring your creative side (the creative you). To teach you how to easily make this all by yourself, let’s choose one of the many flavors. I’ll choose strawberry because I really love the taste and its intoxicating smell. Now let’s consider those ingredients we’ll need in making our strawberry lip balm.
Ingredients: Strawberry flavor oil Sunflower oil White beeswax pellets Lipstick shavings
Tools and Equipments: Pipettes Microwavable glass jug Small microwavable glass jar Spoon – stainless steel Process: Pour your beeswax pellets and sunflower oil into the glass jar and microwave it on low heat. Take it out and stir with a stainless steel spoon after the beeswax pellets have

Add your lipstick shavings to your clear mixture in smaller quantities while you keep stirring. Chapter 10 – Homemade Scalp Treatment Itchy scalp can be very irritating and unbearable. What is worse are the bruises that result from scratching the scalp. Let’s pick a common scalp infection and how to use homemade treatment to eliminate or minimize it. Scalp psoriasis is a very common infection which causes an itchy and flaking scalp. This can be treated by using the olive oil therapy treatment. Ingredients: ¼ cup peanut oil ¼ cup olive oil Process: Mix ¼ cup each of peanut and olive oils and apply to scalp and leave for at least 30 minutes. This means you can leave product in hair overnight before rinsing off and shampooing. This is just one of the processes that can be used but there’re a few more like using Listerine mouth wash. Just apply to scalp as a pre-shampoo therapy.
Chapter 11 – Homemade Shower Gel Bathing gels are one of the most soothing and luxurious products that relax and pampers the skin. Some shower gels on the market have not passed the approval test and can cause severe skin irritation. Those that have been approved for use on the market are also quiet expensive compared to some of these tablet soaps we have on the market. Making a bathing gel from home is very easy to do and less costly. Ingredients: 1 cup of chopped or grated soap. Use scraps of used soaps and combine them to create a whole new fragrance but care should be taken with regards to which soap you add to what. 1 cup of water Essential oils Water based colorant such as food color These are not the only ingredients used for shower gel, you can use shampoo mixed with just water and salt and you’ll achieve the same result. The salt will serve as a thickener to thicken the gel. Process: Make sure to grate or chop scraps of soap into smaller pieces. Pour into a stainless pan, add 1 cup of water and heat it while you stir. Stir until the pieces of soap are all melted into a smooth mixture. You can as well use a microwave but be sure to use a microwavable bowl in heating.
Remove heat when all the soap is melted up and the mixture has become smooth. Allow it to cool then add your fragrance or essential oils, add a water based colorant to give your mixture its desired color. Pour into a clean container and you’re good to start using your wonderful homemade bathing gel.
Chapter 12 – Homemade Acne Treatment Frankly speaking there are a whole lot of these “do it yourself” acne products that really do not yield any result. This type I’m about to show you actually works and you’ll really love how it works. This homemade acne therapy you are about to learn is a coconut oil and turmeric therapy. Ingredients: ½ teaspoon turmeric ½ teaspoon coconut oil Small bowl Process: Mix ½ teaspoon each of turmeric and coconut oil in a small bowl. Stir until mixture looks smooth and even. Apply to face with your fingers concentrating on acne affected areas. Wear product overnight and rinse the next morning with warm or tapped water. This therapy is so effective it only takes 2 to 3 days for acnes to heal completely. You’ll begin to realize immediate result after first treatment with this beauty product.
Chapter 13 – Homemade Body Perfume It’s just almost overwhelming and overpowering with the thought of personalizing your body fragrance. I call it creating your own creative body signature. Some of these body sprays we buy from the cosmetic shops have high alcohol contents and other chemicals in them that can cause severe skin irritations. Do it yourself body mist or body perfumes are the best way to create your unique fragrance that is unique to only you. You can create various fragrances with the wide range of essential oils available to you. The fragrance I’ll touch on is a tropical body perfume. Process: Fill the spray bottle with the water and hydrosol, mix the vanilla extract with the vodka and add to the mixture in the spray bottle. Pour your vegetable glycerin in little drops into the bottle and add your coconut oil. Just one more ingredient and we’re done preparing our sweet scented body mist. Lastly, add your essential oils. Cover bottle and thoroughly shake before use.
Chapter 14 – Homemade Shaving Gel This beauty product is purposely designed for our men; hey we’ve got you in mind as well. It is now so costly to get these gels for very few dollars. Ingredients: ¼ cup of warm water 2 tablespoons of vegetable glycerin ¼ cup of aloe vera gel ½ cup of liquid castile soap ½ teaspoon of salt 1 tablespoon of olive oil Tea tree essential oil Lavender essential oil Process: Mix the salt with the warm water, the salt always serves as a thickening agent. Mix the liquid castle soap, the aloe vera gel and all the other ingredients in their respective quantities.

There are a whole lot easy to make homemade beauty products we will be handling in our next book. This is a whole new ladder to explore your in-depth genuine creativity. Practice with the ingredients and know which works and which does not work for you. Some skin types can be reactive to certain ingredients just as being allergic to certain foods. Just practice to know what works and what doesn’t. I am a fan of homemade natural products and I have been practicing this safe method for many years. I must confess it was a little difficult initially, trying to break away from using my usual artificial beauty products. I just didn’t break away because it took me some time to fully settle with the homemade beauty products. The final decision came about when I realized the immense health benefit of these natural beauty products compared with the artificial ones. I must say that it has helped me save a great deal of money for myself. Makeup for me is a big deal and really them. The interesting part of this whole natural beauty makeup for me was learning how to prepare my own body scrub at home. Getting a natural homemade body scrub at home and a warm bath are one of those few priceless experiences I so cherish. A homemade beauty product and store or over the counter beauty products usually use the same or similar procedures in their preparation. What the do you think makes these cosmetic store product highly expensive? Funny enough the price at which we usually buy these products is basically for its packaging and brand in the case of highly respected and well-known brands.
Practicing these safe practices also helps save our environment and improve your health. By now you have understood how your health will greatly improve. How then does it positively affect the environment? Processing some of these artificial chemicals needed for these beauty products have a negative effect on the environment. You may wonder how this could affect you when these strong and highly dangerous chemicals are not produce near you. They don’t need to, you only need to inhale the dangerous gases they release into the atmosphere during their production. We don’t see them but their production always pollutes the atmosphere and gradually destroys the ozone layer. When the ozone layer is completely destroyed humans and all other living things will be annihilated. Become a fan of do-it-yourself natural beauty products and join the cause to make our environment safe for the next generation. I’ll touch on finance again as another strong boost in shifting focus from artificial beauty products to natural beauty products. Save more money for yourself and your future. Ditch buying expensive products you can make at home yourself. They are expensive not for the content buy for the packaging and brands. Why spend so much on a product’s brand and packaging when you can get the ingredients at a cheaper price to prepare an even safer content than what you buy.

Understanding Color in Natural Soap Prior to undertaking experimentation in color in your soap making it is important to understand the role color plays in natural soap making. Commercial soap colors are often very vibrant and bold. This is because the color is obtained from artificial coloring. Many pictures of handmade and commercial soap you will see online have been touched up with filters and adjustments, even a full Photoshop in the case of some advertising materials. Do not be alarmed if your soap does not match a picture! In natural color additives a more subtle hue is produced. Many of the colors produced are muted or of an earthy variety. There are some select additives that do produce a bright hue, such as many of the oranges, but for the most part be aware when you plan your coloring that outcomes will be on the cooler end of the color scale in brightness. While there is nothing to stop you from using artificial colors in natural soap making if you do seek these hues, if you are making natural soap it is great to stick to natural color additives for an all-round natural product.
Beginning With Color: What To Know Starting to experiment with color in natural soap can be exciting and challenging as there are a number of different additives and interactions. Much more complex than simply adding a dye! Color can be used in soap in some many ways - block color, stripes, rainbows, swirls and more. There is no end to how you can use color in soap making. Here are some common types of additions groups that give great color to soap: Oils: Infusing your soap with oils is an excellent way to produce a smooth finish, as a number of other color methods produce a grainy or obvious addition to the soap. You can create your own infusions with either cold or heat infusion. Creating an oil infusion is easy. Simply mix herbs and spices into a jar with the oil of your choice and let it rest for a period of weeks. The great fun of natural soap making comes from all the different components of soap making prompting much experimentation. With oil infusions you can experiment with countless combinations of herbs and spices. AMAZING! For extra fun - and extra natural - it is easy to create your own herb garden to source from. Truly natural! Herbs: Herbs are widely used in natural soap coloring. Herbs are added to soap in various forms such as ground, dried and powdered. Herbs are great for coloring as they are often easy to source - no need to search online for suppliers! AMAZING! Herbs in soap can produce a lumpy result, if not careful. For a smoother finish use a fine mixture and spread evenly.
Spices: Spices work fantastically in soap and like herbs are easy to obtain. AMAZING! Skip past some of the more common grocery store spices and head to your local ethnic grocer to discover some truly unique spices to experiment with. Clays: Clays are one of the special multi-taskers in natural soap. Clays play a role in creating soap that is soothing and cleansing and great for many common skin conditions. AND clays deliver a beautiful range of natural colors. AMAZING! Keeping organized notes will help guide your soap making. Note Clays down under ‘multi tasking ingredients’. Food: Your everyday kitchen cupboard holds a wonder of soap colors! Food can be tricky in soap - so much simply does not work. However the key items that do work produce great results. And can be as simple as melting a bar of chocolate into your soap mix. Do research carefully how to handle food in your soap making. AMAZING! Amaze a chocolate loving friend with a gift of chocolate colored soap. Perhaps bring some real chocolate to just to be on the safe side!

Gifts for Loved Ones: Homemaking items are wonderful for gift giving. Color your soaps in your loved ones favorite colors for a thoughtful gift they will love. Baby blue and pink soaps make beautiful christening gifts.
Tied Into Design: In the next chapter shapes and designs is discussed. Color can be an expressive part of supporting a design, such as colored stars and hearts.
Color to Purpose: Natural soaps have a variety of purposes from exfoliation to soothing to cleansing. Color your soaps as a guide to the properties of each of your soaps.
Multiple Soap Color: Don’t stop at coloring just one soap! Whether your soaps are a gift or for every day use you often require more than one at a time. Consider coloring your soaps as a complementary package.
When it comes to color you can have many hours of happy experimentation. Don’t be disheartened if your early results are a little less than exemplary - color in natural soap making takes time and patience in the beginning. AMAZING! Don’t forget! This is one where practice definitely makes perfect.
Shaped Molds: You can shape your entire soap by pouring into a mold.
Embedded Shapes: Embedded shapes are a little trickier but worth the impressive result. Molds can be placed in your mixture and another shape created within.
AMAZING! These three types can work together! A mold shaped embedded in a free form shape can create an intriguing contrast.
What To Use To Create Amazing Shapes: Molds are traditional for natural soap making shapes. These are readily available from online suppliers and local specialist stores. You don’t need to restrict yourself to soap specific molds! Cookie cutters you would find in your kitchen can be great in creating shapes. Local kitchen supply stores
Online soap making resources

Markets
AMAZING! Many unscrupulous online sellers will add a premium to the price of shape molds by declaring them specific to natural soap making. Actually, most molds are multiple purpose across a range of craft and creative endeavors. Be careful to price match and research your purchases.
Fun With Hand Shaping: Hand shaping natural soap is for the true artist. This form of shaping takes patience as your initial shapes may be more hit than miss. Persevering with discovering how to hand shape and create is well worth it as there is nothing more natural than a hand shaped soap of all-natural ingredients. Ideas for hand shaped fun include exploring the world of abstract shapes and art. Unleash your inner Frank Gehry! Inspiration for abstract shapes can be found in many places, mostly notably in art. Trips to your local museum are something many plan to do but never get around to - now you have a reason! Take along your camera and note book and impress your friends and family with your art inspired creations. AMAZING! Natural soap is a multi element creative process. While natural hand formed shapes can be the ultimate in a fully natural quest do not think they are the only acceptable way to shape. Soap is a product to be enjoyed and aesthetics play a big role in our experience of a product. In this regard mold shapes play a very important role in creating a soap that is pleasing for the user. Here are some amazing ways you can use mold shaped soaps: Visual Tricks: Shapes are great for playing visual tricks! Soap is great at mimicking food. Trick and thrill your guests with jars of candy shaped shapes in your kitchen or elsewhere. Just make sure no one eats them!
Decorate Your Home: Perfect shapes give a great boost to the beautiful natural products you have made. Some of your soaps may be purely decorative, or remain on the shelf for some time until use. Glass jars of seashell shaped soaps are lovely in the bathroom of a beach house.

Shapes Shapes Shapes: What To Consider: AMAZING! Consider if your soap shape is for aesthetic purposes only or for use. Shapes can be wonderful however some of them involve sharp angles that are not comfortable when used in the shower or bath! AMAZING! Like any experimentation in natural soap making practice makes perfect. Even when using molds your first shapes may end up never seeing the light of day! When playing with shapes consider using a really basic natural soap mixture so you do not waste good ingredients or mixes. What to consider most of all? Don’t be held back by traditional shapes - if you can shape it you can make it!

Soap making contains all the ingredients (!) for fun with children that will keep them entertained and delighted. Soap making is hands on, a little messy and involves producing a product they can keep and use for weeks and weeks. Give baking a miss for this week and try soap making. Here is a great way to set up a soap-making afternoon with the loved little ones in your life:
Step 1: Creating Interest: Long gone are the days when little ones would simply do the activity they were told to do! You can create interest in soap making by sharing your creations so they can see the finished results they could themselves make. For tech savvy youngsters you could show them videos on YouTube of natural soap making. AMAZING! Connecting with your little ones in soap making is a two way street. While you are sharing natural and creative interests with them, this can be a good opportunity to let them show you more about their digital world.
Step 2: Setting Aside Time: Something to consider when creating a soap making afternoon is that many of the processes in natural soap making take weeks, such as infusing oils. Pick a compressed natural soap activity that can produce a finished result in an afternoon. If your little ones show a keen interest in soap making it can be a good way to teach patience to move towards the more lengthy soap making processes.
Step 3: Outfits and Set The Scene! Creative activities are more than just the product produced but are also the experience they are produced in. While you may make your soaps in old house clothes it can be really fun for youngsters to feel like true artists and domestic bees. Consider using art smocks or great aprons. In the room you have set aside for the soap making ensure it looks like great fun from the get go. Have all the ingredients laid out and materials ready. People experience with their eyes first. AMAZING! If you are a multi interest creative a session of making art smocks and aprons with your little ones to then use in activities is lots of fun.
Step 4: Make It Fun: Of course this is key! Sometimes though this is easier said than done. The best way to ensure little ones have fun is provide support rather than direction. Little children have amazing imaginations and so long as their creation is going to produce soap let them go free. Set tasks like ‘today we will produce this soap and follow this recipe’ can lose children’s interest. Keep an eye on what they are doing so that there will not be tears later if it doesn’t work, otherwise, let the weird and wonderful soaps be. AMAZING! Key points to step in and help include the color stage where if a little one has their heart set on a certain color they may need a little help. AMAZING! Are you unsure what on earth your little one has done with their soap? Make a game of the suspense of guess how the soap will turn out! AMAZING! Field trips add a super fun element. Bring your little ones on shopping trips to buy ingredients or out into the community on your inspiration trips. BONUS AMAZING: Field trips area an excellent way to get children off the devices and into the park. Keep things informal and fun and always encourage your littles one efforts. Who knows, you may build a life long interest!

Introduction When I was a kid I loved to draw. I would draw pictures of almost anything from computers to people. As I explored the worlds I created I soon discovered that I had a love for fantasy art. I would draw dragons, wizards and wired creatures of all sorts. As I grew my love for drawing waivered. I had many people asking e to draw something for them. I would be swamped with requests that I decided to put down my pen and go in search of a new love. After years of searching I came across this freeform style of drawing known as Zendoodle. After learning about this amazing art form I had reignited my love for drawing again. In this book I will explore the Zendoodle art form. I will talk about the tools that you need, different techniques that you can use as well as demystify this amazing art form. So if you are looking to get into art and explore your artistic side jump ring into Zendoodled.
Chapter 1 – The Basics When it comes to anything new we need to first look at and understand the basics.
What is Zendoodle? In its simplest form Zendoodle is doodling with patterns. Now if you are someone who has a lot of time on their hands or just likes to draw on a piece of paper or napkin to release stress or just pas the time then you are the perfect candidate to start zendoodling. When you start to embark on this art form you need to realize that there are no mistakes. When dealing with art anything goes. Now with that being said just as with anything else there are basic rules and principals involved that apply to this specific technique.
The Rules When it comes to the rules you are basically drawing in a repeating pattern. This can be lines, circles, freeform shapes and much more. The amount of freeform shapes are subject only to your creative desires but creating and following patters is at the heart of this technique.
Who Can Start This Technique? Anyone can start this technique. If you are interested, and I am presuming that you are since you are reading this book, then you can start to Zendoodle. There have been men, women, boys, girls ages ranging from three to ninety taking up zendoodling. The only requirements are that you need to understand what patterns are and have a desire to experiment.
Why Do People Zendoodle? The reasons for people to Zendoodle are as long as the Earth is round. Since zendoodling is an art form that allows you to clear your mind and relax the body it has been used to treat conditions from boredom to creating unique art for their homes or as gifts. Listed below are many different reasons to start zendoodling. Relaxation – When using Zendoodle you can let your mind wonder and your emotions fill the pages. When you focus on this type of art you don’t have to worry about anything going wrong since it is freeform and there are no wrong choices. Insomnia – When we can’t sleep doing a Zendoodle design will Zallow us to focus our energy. When we look at the patterns we can imagine being in a different world or reality. Self-esteem – For people who feel that they can’t do anything right taking up this style of art will give them confidence. When you work in patterns you can make art that is your own. When you complete a project you feel good about yourself and when you show it to others their reaction will give you a sense of pride and accomplishment. Inspiration – Sometimes when we are stuck on a project or just can’t seem to find that final piece of the puzzle letting our minds wonder and see something in a pattern that just gives you inspiration to try something new is a great reason to start. Panic attacks - Zendoodle allows us to focus on a specific task. So those who suffer from panic attacks can use this a s away to focus their energy towards a specific goal. These are only a few of the possible reasons to try this style of art. Here are some more that you can explore.
A therapy tool to help those suffering from addictions A way for people to deal with anger management issues Brainstorming Tool for creative tasks like writing or sculpting Create works of art that are beautiful and inspirational Develop motor control skills for children and those suffering from physical injures As a tool to get children and others interested in art Tools for homeschooled children Improvement tool to help with eye and hand coordination As a focus tool to help Increase attention span and ability to concentrate on tedious or repetitive tasks. Modify behavior in those who have mental related or social issues Nurture and develop creative abilities and the ability to recognize patters in the world around us. Relieve stress from day to day activities. Great for business people who have to deal with other peoples problems. Team building and group focus tool. Allow people in groups to focus on a task and create an inspirational work of art. And many more reasons. Learning this form of art is just fun and should be tried by everyone at least once.
Getting Started Getting started is quick and easy. There are no specific tools that you need to purchase or have in order to create Zendoodle art. With that being said most people do follow the practice of drawing with black ink on white paper. For our projects we will focus on a standard 8 ½ x 11 sheet of white paper. You can go to Staples, Walmart or any other store that sells office supplies and purchase what you need. To create the art all you need is a pencil, pen, marker or crayon. Now there are specific drawing tools that people use in order to get a fine line in their drawings but you can feel free to use whatever drawing utensil you have available.
Step 1 – No Preconceptions When starting out you don’t want to have any preconceptions of what your artwork will look like when completed. If you do have an idea of what type of art you want to create that will be okay but this is a freeform art style.
Step 2 – There Are No Directions When zendoodling, people tend to pick one side of the paper as up, down, left or right. This doesn’t matter when it comes to Zendoodle. Since we are creating art one person might see it flowing in one direction while anther will see a totally different pattern. This is why Zendoodle is so popular.
Step #3 – Portability Zendoodle can be done anywhere. This means that what you are doing needs to be portable. When creating your art you may want to consider using a notebook or a sketch pad. This way you can carry your art with you and work on it at home, at work or school or just sitting around waiting for something t happen.
Step #4 – Plan Your Patterns When doing this art form you are free to do whatever you want but you need to think before you act. What this means is that you are not putting random lines on a piece of paper. You are actually creating a pattern with lines, circles, waves, dots and a slew of other shapes. When creating this art you are creating controlled chaos.
Step #5 – Focus When doing this many people will consider this doodling. Well this is not doodling sine you are structuring your drawing with a purpose. True the end purpose of the drawing is unknown which makes it feel like doodling but at the end of the day you have control and working on control when it comes to the final outcome.
Step #6 – Find Inspiration When starting this you will want to find inspiration. Finding your inspiration is a personal pursuit that can’t be taught. Suggestions would be for you to look at other art created in this medium. You can look at objects in your house or environment to see patterns that you can practice and reproduce. You can listen to music or an audio book. Finding your inspiration is as personal as the drawings you make.
Creating Your First Zendoodle Piece Of Art
Step 1 – Create A Square You want to start off by creating a square on your piece of paper. This square can be drawn freehand or you can use a ruler. When creating your square you wan tot use a pencil and lightly press down. You don’t want to see the square in your final design.
Step 2 – Create Strings In the Zendoodle art method we use strings to divide our square into random pattern. These strings are freeform shapes that connect one point of the square to another point in the square. When first starting out make your strings long and wide. As you get better at this technique you can make smaller areas on your paper to work in.
Step 3 – Draw Tangles Tangles are shapes that you fill into the patterns created by the strings. These tangles can be anything that you can think of. For beginners you will wan tot start with basic shapes. Lines, circles, dots, squiggle, hearts, diamonds or whatever you can think of. There are no rules.
Step 4 – Shade And Color After you have your tangles you can add shading or color to the patterns. When you do this you want to be careful not to destroy any of your tangles. The idea behind this is to keep the patterns. So to start off don’t color your artwork.
Step 5 – Don’t Erase Mistakes When doing this understand that there are no mistakes. If you mess up on a pattern you just need to stop, think of a way to incorporate it into your design and move forward. As Bob Ross was famous for saying “They are happy little accidents.”
Step 6 – Don’t Stop The idea behind this method is that once you start a drawing you can’t stop until it is finished. This is why it is highly suggested that if you are just staring out to start big and don’t make a lot of detail. As you become more experienced you can start taking on more complex patterns and intricate designs.
Chapter 2 – Developing Tangles When it comes to tangles here are 102 official angles in the Zendoodle drawing technique. The creators of this technique have reserved the rights to specific tangles that can’t be published in any documentation but are taught exclusively in their classes. For a complete list of tangles you can visit this web page. In this chapter we will explore some of these patterns and give you examples of how to use them. If you want more information then please visit the web site above.
Ahh
The Ahh pattern is a very simple pattern to use. Many people ause this pattern as a filler pattern in their drawings. Similar to fireworks the ahh pattern is basically a series of 7 lines in a circle pattern. At the end of the lines there is a dot that is optional. Similar to a firework explosion in the sky the feeling of “Ahh” is experienced when looking at this pattern.
Ambler aka Emingle
This is another very simple pattern to create. This pattern is made by utilizing the technique known as Frets. Typically you will start in the upper left hand corner of the design and follow the pattern to the bottom left over to the lower right up to the upper right and then over to the upper left again leaving enough room and space to repeat the pattern again. You will continue to repeat this pattern until you arrive at the center of the shape.
Arukus
This is a cool tangle to draw. First off you start with a circle in the middle of the angle. From there you create your spokes. Once you have your spokes you draw lines radiating away from the center. To improve on this design you can change the shape in the middle and the number of spokes coming off of it. You can also have multiple shapes in the middle but you will want to have spokes coming off of each shape. Start with the original version of this tangle which had five spokes. From there you can have six spokes, four spokes or whatever you want. Be creative.
Assunta
This tangle was lost for many years on a crumpled up napkin. It was revived and added to the official collection when Rick, the creator of this drawing method found it cleaning up some old papers. As a gift to his wife he gave it to her as her 60th birthday present. This pattern is very simple. It is representative of a cadent. How this tangle is made is shown in the image below.
You start by drawing a small horizontal line and a small vertical line. Repeat this pattern throughout your pattern area. From there you want to use the half S connecting one line to another. Repeat this for both sides.
Repeat the pattern until you make a flowered design.
Auraknot
This is a pattern that looks difficult and challenging but once you know the secret it is a very easy one to do. First off you want to start with your basic shape. The most common shape is a star. You can create a star with as many points as you wish but starting between 3 to 5 points is good to get stared The secret to this tangle is skipping points. So for the simplest example you want to skip one point. So start at the top point of one stat and connect your line to the next by skipping the point right beside it. Now mirror that same line right next to it. Rotate the paper clockwise and repeat the process with the next point. As you go you will come in contact with previous lines. You don’t want to cross over instead you will want to go underneath the line to form the pattern. To add to this tangle you can change he number of points, add additional stars and tie them together and so much more. Have fun with this one it will be a challenge to get it started but once mastered you will be doing them all over the place.
Beelight
This is a very simple but unique tangle. First off you want to create a 9 square grid in your shape. The lines in the grid don’t have to be straight up and down. In fact if they are curved a little they will give your drawing a little more character. Once you have your grid lines you want to start making half moons or circles in the squares. You want to radiate the circles outwards until they fill up the entire square. You will want to repeat this pattern for each of the 9 squares. Then for the first half moon in the upper right hand corner you want to shade it in. As you can see this is a very easy and creative pattern to use. You can explore and expand on this by changing the directions of the circles, the number of squares in the grid and much more. Have fun with it.
Beeline
The beeline pattern was created by looking at the way a honeycomb was actually put together. It was discovered that the back layer of a honey comb and the front layer are placed in a staggered pattern. From there they saw how man made this same pattern by looking at a clothe hamper. With these to inspirations the beeline tangle was created.
The first thing that you will do is create a series of horizontal lines that go across your paper. The lines don’t have to be perfectly straight in if they are not then you will give more character to your tangle. The next step is to connect the lines together with shorter lines. You want to alternate the pattern of lines from facing in to facing out. Similar to making a stair pattern.
Next you will want to repeat the same pattern but in a mirrored image of itself.
Repeat the pattern and the process until you reach the end. Add some shading and other effects to make the pattern really stand out.
Bronx Cheer
The Bronx Cheer is a very simple pattern. Basically it is a raspberry shaped tangle. This tangle can be made with or without a stem. First off you start by drawing a circle. Then on top of that circle you draw two more circles. You keep repeating this pattern until you have formed the shape of a raspberry. You can then add a stem and leaves if you wish. It all depends on the pattern and the image that you are trying to crate. This is a great pattern to add some still life to your drawings or perhaps a filler that will make your image come alive.
Bunzo
For those just staring out this is the easiest of the tangles you will ever create. It is made with only one stroke. ) is the curve you want to make. This ) can be any size or be turned to go in any direction. Once you start using this curved shape you will find your drawings taking on a life of their own. Add in some shading and colors and watch out.
Blink
This is a very simple tangle to create. Frist off you need to create a diamond shape that will be the center of each blink. Make sure to leave enough space between each diamond to create a smaller connecting diamond. Next make smaller diamonds connecting the previous diamonds together. From there you will make your crescent shape. This crescent shape will to from the center point of the top diamond to the center point of the diamond beneath. You will repeat this pattern until you see the image to the left. Once you have the basic pattern you can start adding your own embellishments. These can be lines, circles or other patterns. Go ahead and be creative.
Blooming Butter
This tangle was inspired by looking at a pattern from a butter dish. This is created by creating two parallel curved lines One set per each blooming butter. Next between the two lines you want to draw a small circle. At the top of the blooming butter you want to draw two crescent shapes side by side and connecting. Repeat this above the one you just drew. When finished your blooming butter will look something like the picture to the left. You can add some more artistic license to this by increasing the number of butters. As you can see you can get inspiration from a multitude of different places and items around the house.
The Heart Box
If you are looking for an easy tangle to start with or if you are someone who likes to draw little hearts over their I’s then this is a great tangle to play with. All you need to do is draw a warped 3 in the box about 3/4 of te way down. You can then shade your heart, shade around the heart or both to make it a unique heart box. The heart box can be combined in a 4 square section to make a huge heart or a clover looking 4 leaf clovers. Have fun with this tangle and see if your friends can find your heart. If you like this heart design and you wan to expand on the heart concept here are a few more hearts that you may want to play with. Look at the images and see if you can recreate them.
This design is called “Heartfully”
It is made by drawing a heart shape in each of the four corners of your square. When you play with this tangle you can create some interesting effects
Heartline1 is the name of this tangle. It is made by drawing one heart going one way and then drawing another heart the other way to form a line. You can make a single row of heart lines or you can layer them p to crate some interesting patterns.
Heartrope is the name of this tangle. It is a little more advanced but you can play with the intricate pattern. How you make this pattern is fairly simple. You start by drawing a small line. Then on the right side of the line you draw a half heart. Then lower down draw the same half heart on the left hand side. You will have a pattern that is basically a heart that was shifted down. Now repeat the pattern right next to it to increase the layers. Repeat the pattern down the line until you reach the length of the heartrope you want to make.
Heart Strings is another great variation of a heart tangle. How this one works is you draw a heart and then draw vertical lines that curve out to give the heart a 3D effect. This is a great one to start with when getting into doing tangles.
HeartVines is another variation of the heart shape. You can connect them with a line or a vine if it were. You can even shade one side or add patterns to the vines to give them character. This is great to add character to your tanges.
Hearty
Hearty is another heart themed tangle. You can make it easily my drawing ( ) for each side of the heart. Then draw a V for the bottom of the heart. To expand it out just draw some additional ( and ) on either side of the heart to make it look like several hearts are sitting on top of each other. When it comes to drawing tangles starting with basic shapes and seeing what you can do with them is what makes Zendoodled a cool art form. When drawing your zentangels look at basic shapes and see what you can do with them. This is why I gave you a lot of heart option. I know everyone can draw a hart. So when starting out do this one first and expand from there.
Chapter 3 – Playing with Shapes In this section I am going to give you a listing of all the basic shapes that you can use when doing your Zendoodle drawings. Use this as a reference guide to give you inspiration. Squares are the most basic shape that you can create. When starting with Zendoodled you will start with a basic square. From there you will add in additional shapes and patterns. Curves are the next shape that you will want to play with. When you draw a curved line you have the power to make it very curved or short. You can bend the curve to fit any direction. Curves are great for starting freeform shapes. Circles are another basic shape that you can use in your drawings. You can make circles as large as the paper or as small as a dot. When you make circles you can warp them to make ovals as well. Triangles are another great shape to play with. When you draw triangles you can make use the squares you have already drawn or by simply drawing a straight line or you can draw a triangle anywhere on your paper. When you draw triangles you can make the sides different lengths which will give character to your drawings. Stars are great to play with in this drawing style. When you draw a star you have the options to draw as many points as you wish. Also, when you draw stars you can alter their direction, skip points as you draw between lines and much more. When playing with your drawings see what cool stuff you can make with stars. Double Wave or a Flag
With this pattern you can make flags or some cool 3D effects. To make this shape you just need to make two horizontal lines in a wave pattern and then at each end draw a vertical line Have some fun with this pattern and see what type of stuff you can come up with. Hearts We talked about hearts earlier but I wanted to mention it again. Hearts are such simple shapes to draw they are a must for anyone looking to start Zendoodling. Arrows are easy to draw and can add some artistic interest to your Zendoodle designs. You can make arrows with simple lines or you can add a 3D effect to them similar to the arrow to the left. Lines are the most simple shapes that you can have in Zendoodled as well as any other form of drawing. When you draw a line you can add depth and dimension to your drawings. Lines can be any length and can turn into any other shape you can think of. So when drawing and you can’t decide on what to draw just start with a simple line and see what develops from there.
Combining Shapes When it comes to Zendoodled it is all about combining shapes together to form patterns. As you saw from the examples given in the book so far you can easily break them down into patterns of simple shapes. To make a heart for example you are adding two lines and two curves. To make a swirl you are creating a curved line that goes in on itself. When it comes to drawing there really isn’t a lot that needs to be learned. All drawing is in its simplest form is combining shapes together. For the next exercise I want you to pick two of the shapes listed above and create your own tangle. Play with manipulating the shapes to form a pattern. For example start with a curve and then add a line. From there a triangle or a heart. Try drawing these shapes going in different directions. You can also go and start playing with the thickness of the lines and shapes that you create. Start drawing one shape and then without thinking start drawing another.
Shading And Coloring When you start creating your Zendoodles you will see and feel the need to shade and color your creations. When it comes to shading it is very simple. With the side of your pencil, crayon or colored pencil lightly follow the shape of the item you want to shade. When you follow the natural shape of the object is when you maser the shading. When shading you don’t want to go off in any other direction rather than the natural shape of the design. When it comes to shading you want to remember that less is more. One thing that people do wrong is they try to add just a little more shading or coloring. With this art style you don’t want to make things too pronounced. You want to leave parts of your drawing to the viewers imagination.
Zendoodle With A Frame Of Reference When starting people have a hard time trying to figure out what they want to draw. One great option is to look around the house or around nature and see what will give you inspiration. One great thing that you can do is draw a pattern of an animal or other creature. You want to start with these because they are a reference point that many people can relate to. When you start with something that you can relate to then it will be easier to explore your ideas. Listed below are some animals that you might want to consider drawing. If you can’t draw the shape of the animal look for a pattern or a stencil you can trace.
Owls are great animals to start with. First off they are small and second they have a lot of unique features that can be Zendoodled. You can draw the owl with its wings folded in or spread out.
Hair is another great thing that you can play with Zentange. Hair has the ability to go in any possible direction and form unique patterns all their own.
Lions are known as the king of beasts. When you can Zendoodle a lion you will be the king of zendoodling. You can create some cool effects in their hair as well as give personality to their stare. When doing a lion you an start with their head and move on to doing them with their bodies.
Wolves are mysterious creatures When you Zendoodle a wolf you are adding to their mystery. Take a moment to look at this picture. What do you see? Well when I see this Zendoodle I see the eyes staring at me. You can create the same effect when you Zendoodle a wolf.
When it comes to choosing animals to Zendoodle the sky is the limit. When selecting your subject try to make it something unique and something that will provide a challenge as well as opportunity to try different tangles. You need to remember that you are creating a piece of art. Selecting a subject to focus on is a great starting point. Letting it grow and
expand is what makes the subject unique. When dealing with Zendoodle you are dealing with shapes and nothing more. So look at your subjects and ask yourself what you see and feel.
Conclusion First off I want to thank you for taking tis time to explore this amazing style of art. As I wrote this book I began to learn more and more as well as build up ideas to start creating some more amazing Zendoodled works of art. When it comes to this drawing style don’t focus on the end drawing but rather focus on the feelings and emotions that are flowing through your body at that exact moment. If the feeling makes you want to draw a circle draw a circle. If you feel like drawing a rain drop draw a raindrop. There are no wrong answers only patterns. Follow the patterns and follow your heart and soon you will be creating some amazing Zendoodled pieces of art that you will be proud to display.
Follow These Steps To Success Start with a basic shape Add some additional shapes to fill in your original concept. Fill in your shapes with basic tangles Create your own tangles and share them with the word. And always draw. For when you draw you are creating something of yourself that people will relate to. Thank you again for exploring the Zentanged universe with me. I want to wish you all the best in everything that you do. Keep drawing, keep smiling and let Zendoodle be your guide. Have fun.

Introduction We often forget nature’s bounty in today’s world; if you take a walk along the aisles of a modern chemist’s you will find so many chemical products that only use synthesised essences to ‘pretend’ to smell nice. However, if you want to take advantage not only of the real fragrances that nature has to offer, but of the beneficial effects of the active ingredients of so many plants, flowers, herbs, fruits, spices and trees; if you want to know what you put on your skin, and you don’t have a PhD in chemistry; if you want to save money with treatments that are both natural and cheap, you should look at essential oils as the answer to many a problem. Essential oils are very versatile, and can be used to treat your hair as well as your mood; they can be used as vaporisers, as bath and shower soaps, as body scrubs, as steam inhalations, as face packs as well as for massages, finally, and this is what we will be focusing on in this book, essential oils are great to improve the health, look and feel of your hair and scalp; they can even encourage hair growth. However, remember that you must never ingest essential oils and avoid contact with your eyes and mouth. If you are new to essential oils, don’t panic; before we start looking at some exceptional and easy to prepare oils, we will look at the basic things you need to know; they are not difficult, but make sure you understand them well: they will be the foundation of all the recipes you will read later in this book. The first thing you need to decide when you are mixing an essential oil is the effect you want from it. In fact, contrary to what some people think, essential oils have a range of effects, from calming and soothing, from disinfectant to invigorating. You will need to choose the effect that you think is most beneficial for you, thus, you need to know what your hair is like and needs first.
Essential oils can be used to improve oleosity of your hair (how dry or oily it is). Specific essential oils are particularly indicated for normal, some for dry and some for oily hair, for example, just look at the lists that follow: Good essential oils for normal hair: thyme, lemon, rosemary, geranium, sage and lavender, ylang ylang.
Good essential oils for dry hair: sandal, geranium, lavender, rosemary.
Good essential oils for greasy hair: lavender, lemon, lime, mint, peppermint, cypress, lavender.
Moreover, essential oils can also treat flaky hair and promote hair growth. You will know that you have flaky hair if it is brittle, if it breaks easily and if you have many split ends. Here are some examples: Good essential oils for flaky hair: cedar, cypress, basil, lemon, Melrose, tea tree, thyme, sage, lavender, rosemary.
Good essential oils to stimulate hair growth: ylang ylang, red cedar, thyme, lavender, grapefruit, geranium, sage, cedar, cypress.
Essential oils also belong to different categories; these categories are defined according to the source of the essence and they also reflect different aromas; it is the aromas that wake up or soothe ours senses, so, it is important that you choose those you like best. Here are the different categories; Citrus, for example lemon.
Floral, or coming from flowers, like jasmine.
Earthy, when it smells a bit like moist earth, like oakmoss.
Medicinal, when the essence has a strong, pungent aroma, as that of tea tree.
Spicy, which of course includes clove, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Wood, when the essence comes from the bark of a tree, like cedar.
Minty, as in peppermint.
Herbaceous, when the essence comes from a soft green plant, like basil.
The secret of essential oils is mixing essences from different categories. If you are new to essential oils, it is better to start with two or three categories only, keeping it simple, then build on your experience to more and more categories and more complex aromas. Usually, it is safe to mix a medicinal essence, a wood and a floral one; it is also quite safe to use a citrus, a spice and a wood. Have you noticed how one of the essences is very strong, while the others offer more delicate nuances to the bouquet? Sometimes, getting two strong ones (like spices and citrus) to fight against each other and finishing the effect with a subtler one can also give good results. The final thing that you should know about essential oils is that they have notes, a bit like songs… By note, we mean how fast or slowly the oil evaporates. You may notice that if you use an essential oil, you will smell a fragrance first, then it starts changing, and, hours later, you smell completely different. This is because not all essences evaporate at the same time. We group notes into three big groups: Top notes are those fragrances that evaporate the fastest, usually within an hour.
Middle notes are those that last longer, usually up to three hours.
Base notes are those that take even longer to evaporate.
Of course, the time it takes for a note to run its course depends on many things: how you
use the essential oil, where, the temperature and even humidity, so, be aware that the times given can change quite significantly, however, top notes will finish first, then medium and you will be left with base notes; the order will not change. Here is a list of common notes: Top notes: basil, lemongrass, peppermint, spearmint, bergamot, grapefruit, lemon, lemongrass, eucalyptus, peppermint, spearmint, verbena, sage, tangerine.
Middle notes: pine, rosemary, cypress, sage, tea tree, yarrow, nutmeg, juniper, hyssop, geranium, black pepper, bay.
Base notes: ginger, clove, frankincense, cedar wood, rose, sandal wood, valerian, vanilla.
Now you know the basics of essential oils; are you ready for a wonderful, and very, very fragrant journey?
Chapter 1- Thyme and lavender scalp massage lotion This lotion was scientifically tested, and was proved to fight hair loss, especially in women. Hair loss in women may be due to a series of factors, yet, the most common is stress; the essential oil massage lotion we will be learning to prepare now stimulates blood circulation in the scalp and cleans and activates follicles, thus promoting hair growth. Follicles tend to get obstructed when our body is stressed, as it cleanses itself of the toxins generated by stress though your pores (that’s why stress causes spots and pimples) as well as hair follicles. You will need a small jar, a blender, thyme and lavender essential oils, jojoba oil (4 tablespoons, or 2 oz, or 60 ml) and grape seed oil (1 tablespoon, or ½ oz, or 15 ml). Now, follow these steps to prepare the lotion: Put the jojoba and grape seeds in the blender: blend using the pulse setting and letting the mixture relax a few seconds between pulses; you don’t want your blend to get warm. Blend the jojoba and grape seeds well, till they are perfectly smooth. This will be your carrier blend for the oils. Scoop the carrier blend out of the blender. Add 10 drops of thyme essential oil and 5 drops of lavender essential oil. Mix well with a teaspoon. Close the jar and let it rest in a dark and cold place for 24 hours.
How to use the lotion: Wash your hair beforehand and pat-dry using a towel, leaving it lightly damp but not wet.
Dip your fingers in the jar with the lotion and, starting from the back of your head, massage it with a firm but slow circular movement into your scalp.
Proceed from the nape all the way up to your forehead, scooping more lotion with your fingers as needed.
Leave the lotion to rest on your head for about twenty minutes.
Wash your head with lukewarm water.
Repeat on a daily basis for at least two weeks.
Chapter 2 - Anti-dandruff shampoo Take a walk to any chemist or supermarket and, if you compare the price of shampoos available, you will find that anti-dandruff shampoos are some of the most expensive. Yet, using some simple (and cheap) ingredients, simple procedures and, of course, some great essential oils you can make a big bottle of your own fragrant, fresh, chemical free antidandruff shampoo. You will need a bar of Castile soap (8 oz or 250 gr., which is the average bar), coconut milk (1/2 cup, or 4 oz, about 120 ml), coconut oil (4 tablespoons, or 2 oz, equivalent to 60 ml), lavender essential oil, lemon essential oil, rosemary essential oil, melaleuca essential oil, a squeezable plastic bottle, a knife, a bowl, a funnel, a kettle. Once you have all the ingredients, follow these steps: Cut the Castile soap bar into slices, each slice should be about ½ inch or 1 cm thick.
Put the Castile soap into a bowl and pour half a cup of hot water on it. The soap should melt, if it doesn’t melt completely, add a bit of water till it is completely melted.
Leave the liquid Castile soap to chill; this may take a few hours.
Once it has chilled, using a funnel, pour the liquid soap into the squeezable plastic bottle.
Add the coconut oil, 15 drops of lavender essential oil, 15 drops of lemon essential oil, 15 drops of rosemary essential oil, 15 drops of melaleuca essential oil.
Close the bottle and it’s ready to use.
Do remember, as you wash your hair to scratch and massage your scalp well and make sure you do not wash the shampoo off straight away, but leave it on your head for about one minute at least.
Chapter 3 - Rosemary, lavender and Atlantic cedar wood scalp massage lotion This lotion has similar properties to the thyme and lavender scalp massage lotion, but it is a bit stronger; it has the added power of being a light scrub, which will help cleanse your follicles, and three active ingredients. It is advisable to use this lotion if you have noticed that, together with the hair loss, your scalp and hair have become a bit more oily than they usually are; this may indicate a food imbalance (often added to stress, don’t we all eat worse when we are stressed?), so your follicles may be clogged up badly. This is sometimes accompanied by a change in the smell of our scalp; this lotion also has a very strong bouquet in order to give our scalp a pleasant long-lasting fragrance. You will need coconut oil (4 tablespoons or 2 oz or 60 ml), dried grapefruit seeds (2 tablespoons or 1 oz or 30 gr.), rosemary essential oil, lavender essential oil, Atlantic cedar wood essential oil, a pestle, a small jar and a spoon. Now, follow these easy steps: Put the grapefruit seeds in the pestle; you should not use a blender ad you want to break the seeds but keep the strength and integrity of the broken seeds, as they will act as a scrubbing agent.
Grind the seeds down till they are the size of ground pepper corns.
Pour the seeds into the jar and add the coconut oil.
Add 10 drops of lavender essential oil, 10 drops of rosemary essential oil and 10 drops of Atlantic cedar wood essential oil.
Mix well with a spoon.
Close the jar and put it in a cold, dry place.
How to use the lotion: Wash your hair with a lavender or lemon based shampoo, and pat-dry with towel, leaving it damp but not wet.
Dip your fingers in the jar with the lotion and, starting from the back of your head, massage it with a firm but slow circular movement into your scalp; make sure you feel the grains of grapefruit seeds rubbing against your scalp.
Proceed from the nape all the way up to your forehead, scooping more lotion with your fingers as needed.
Leave the lotion to rest on your head for about thirty minutes.
Wash your head with lukewarm water; make sure you wash it well to clear all the grapefruit seed grains.
Repeat on a daily basis for at least four weeks.
Chapter 4 - Dry and flaky hair conditioner If your hair is dry and flaky, you may want to have a fully natural, fragrant and homemade conditioner that will return moisture, resilience, softness and that wonderful silky touch to it. Essential oils have great properties that, mixed with the right (and always cheap) ingredients, will do just that.
You will need castor oil (1/2 cup, or 4 oz or 120 ml), coconut or jojoba oil (1/2 cup, or 4 oz or 120 ml), extra virgin olive oil (1 teaspoon or 5 ml), vegetable glycerine (1 teaspoon or 5 ml), emulsifying wax (1 tablespoon, ½ oz or 15 gr.), 2 capsules of vitamin E, lavender essential oil, geranium essential oil, clary sage essential oil and ylang ylang essential oil, a bowl, a saucepan, a spoon, a squeezable plastic bottle and a funnel. Mix the glycerine, the castor oil, the coconut or jojoba oil and the emulsifying wax in a bowl.
Pour a cup of water (8 oz or 250 ml) into the saucepan and put on very low fire. Heat until it is lukewarm. Remember it needs to be simply lukewarm, not hot.
Slowly pour the water into the bowl, make sure you get a smooth silky cream; do not add water past this stage.
Add the vitamin E capsules.
Stir well and leave to cool; the water will evaporate and your conditioner will thicken.
Add 10 drops of lavender essential oil, 2 drops of clary sage essential oil, 2 drops of geranium essential oil and 2 drops of ylang ylang essential oil.
Stir well, pour into the plastic bottle using your funnel and the conditioner is ready!
Remember to leave the conditioner on your head for at least two minutes and comb your hair with a shower comb for best results.
Chapter 5 - Hair and scalp deodorant shampoo Sometimes, we put our hand in our hair and when we smell the tips of our fingers we are not pleased. Why is it that despite having washed our hair it still has an unpleasant smell? This is normally due to the pores on our scalp being overactive: it is not usually a permanent situation; it is often due to a change in lifestyle and in diet, or sometimes due to the intake of certain medicines. Essential oils can be used to create a shampoo that will make your scalp and hair feel fresh for a whole twenty-four hours and here’s how… You will need a bar of soap (8 oz or 250 gr., which is the average bar), coconut milk (1/2 cup, or 4 oz, about 120 ml), coconut oil (4 tablespoons, or 2 oz, equivalent to 60 ml), a tablespoon of honey (1/2 oz or 15 ml or gr.), peppermint essential oil, lemongrass essential oil, a squeezable plastic bottle, a knife, a bowl, a funnel, a kettle. Have you got all the ingredients? Great! Now follow these easy steps to make your own shampoo: Slice the soap bar into small pieces, about ½ inch or 1 cm thick. Put the soap into a bowl and pour half a cup of hot water on it. The soap should melt, if it doesn’t melt completely, add a bit of water till it is completely melted. Add the honey, and stir well so that it mixes in well. Do it as the soap is still warm, which will help the mixing of the honey in. Leave the liquid soap to chill completely. Once it has chilled, pour the liquid soap into the squeezable plastic bottle using the funnel. Add the coconut oil; close the bottle and shake well. Add 30 drops of peppermint essential oil. Add 20 drops of lemongrass essential oil. Screw the lid on and shake vigorously.
Your shampoo is now ready to use; make sure you have a deep whiff of it: it will make you want to rush to the shower!
Chapter 6 - Shiny hair conditioner If your hair has lost brightness and shine, it has become matt and looks tired, there may be many reasons for it: a common cause is pollution, however, your hair also tends to lose shine during winter or when your vitamin intake is unbalanced; hairspray and chemical shampoos can also cause hair to lose shine. Don’t panic though, the remedy is simple and quite powerful and quick; just leave it to some wonderful essential oils! You will need castor oil (1/2 cup, or 4 oz or 120 ml), coconut oil (1/2 cup, or 4 oz or 120 ml), extra virgin olive oil (1 teaspoon or 5 ml), vegetable glycerine (1 teaspoon or 5 ml), emulsifying wax (1 tablespoon, ½ oz or 15 ml or gr.), almond essential oil, tea tree essential oil, basil essential oil, a bowl, a saucepan, a spoon, a squeezable plastic bottle and a funnel. Pour the castor oil, the coconut oil, the vegetable glycerine and the emulsifying wax in a bowl.
Pour a cup of water (8 oz or 250 ml) into the saucepan and put on very low fire.
Heat the water until it is lukewarm. Remember it needs to be simply lukewarm. Do not heat it until it is hot; you should be able to put your fingers in and feel pleasantly warm.
Slowly pour the water into the bowl, make sure you get a smooth cream; once you have reached this consistency, stop pouring water.
Stir well with a spoon and leave it to cool; this will cause the water to evaporate and your conditioner will thicken slightly.
Stir well; pour the thickened cream into the plastic bottle using your funnel.
Add 20 drops of almond essential oil, 15 drops of basil essential oil and 10 drops of tea tree essential oil.
Close the bottle and shake very well.
Apply your conditioner after you wash your hair, and make sure you keep it on your head for a minute or two before rinsing it off. You should see visibly clear results in a matter of days!
Chapter 7 - Lavender and grapeseed hair spray Having your own essential oil spray to carry with you when you go out is very convenient, as you can put it in your bag and use it anywhere, thus taking care of your hair all day round. Chapter 8 - Rosemary and peppermint shampoo for oily hair and scalp If your scalp and hair tends to get oily, it can be rather unpleasant. There are many reasons why it does that: it can be the normal oleosity of your scalp, or it may be due to the environment (pollution in particular can male your scalp, and as a consequence your hair, feel oily), or it may be that your diet needs changing. However, the remedy is simple and natural. All you need to do is make your own natural shampoo and wash it as much as you want without fearing that the chemicals in off-the-shelf shampoos ruin your hair, and it’s much easier than most people think. Add as much of the rest of the water as necessary to melt the soap completely; do not bring to the boil.
Leave to cool completely.
Pour the melted so into the squeezable bottle using the funnel.
Add 16 drops of rosemary essential oil.
Add 6 drops of peppermint essential oil.
Close the bottle and shake well.
When washing your hair, make sure you massage your scalp, and leave the shampoo on for about one minute. Your hair will become less oily with the first application, but keep using the shampoo every time you wash your hair.
Chapter 9 - Flaxseed gel for fizzy hair If your hair is fizzy and uncompromisingly curly, styling it can be a real challenge. Of course, there are many products on offer to subdue such hair, but, unless you are prepared to spend a small fortune at a herbalist, most products contain chemicals that, in the long term, will not do your hair any good: they may weaken it and damage it, and you may end up with even fizzier hair than you started with. What you need is a gel that treats your hair while holding it in place and giving it a beautiful shine to boot. This home-made gel is the perfect, easy and cheap solution. You will need distilled or filtered water (250 ml, or 1 cup), vegetable gelatine (1 tablespoon or ½ oz or 15 gr.), a small pan, a funnel, a small jar, flaxseed essential oil, tea tree essential oil. Take the jar out of the fridge and stir.
Add 8 drops of flaxseed oil.
Add 2 drops of tea tree oil.
Mix well and your gel is ready!
Chapter 10 - Cypress oil conditioner for oily hair If your hair and scalp are oily, or as some people say, greasy, it is very important that you use the right conditioner, as some conditioners available on the market can make your hair feel even oilier than it is naturally. This conditioner uses the properties of cypress, peppermint and lime, which will add a wonderful shine to your hair while cleansing it, and making it far less oily. It is not difficult to make and it contains, of course, no chemical ingredients. You will need castor oil (1/2 cup, or 4 oz or 120 ml), jojoba oil (1/2 cup, or 4 oz or 120 ml), vegetable glycerine (1 teaspoon or 5 gr.), emulsifying wax (1 tablespoon, ½ oz or 15 gr.), 2 capsules of vitamin B, cypress essential oil, peppermint essential oil, lime essential oil, a bowl, a saucepan, a spoon, a squeezable plastic bottle and a funnel. Pour the glycerine, the castor oil, the jojoba oil and the emulsifying wax in a bowl.
Mix very well using a spoon.
Pour a cup of water (8 oz or 250 ml) into the saucepan and put on very low fire. Heat until it is lukewarm; this should take no more than 5 minutes; keep an eye on it and do not bring to boil.
Pour the water into the bowl slowly, and make sure you get a smooth cream; once your cream is smooth and silky, stop adding water.
Add the vitamin B capsules.
Stir well and leave to cool; your conditioner will acquire consistency and thicken as the water evaporates.
Add 10 drops of cypress essential oil, 5 drops of peppermint essential oil and 2 drops of lime essential oil.
Stir well, pour into the plastic bottle using your funnel and keep your conditioner ready for next time you wash your hair.
Remember to use this conditioner regularly and leave it on your hair for one or two minutes every time so your scalp and hair can absorb the essential oils. You should start seeing results with the first application and they will become more and more visible the more you use it.
Chapter 11 - Aloe vera and grapefruit hair spray We all know that aloe vera has a wonderfully soothing effect on the skin, and makes it feel fresh and invigorated; what fewer people know is that it is also good for your hair and its effect on the scalp needs to be tried to be believed. If you have very long days at work, if you travel on public transport, if it’s a hot day, giving your hair and scalp freshness with aloe vera and a touch of grapefruit can be a real treat and return your hair and you the vitality that hot and stuffy places have stolen. So, this easy-to-make and cheap hair spray is a must in every bag in summer. You will need a small plastic spray bottle, purified water (1 oz or 30 ml), aloe vera juice (1 oz or 30 ml), almond oil (one teaspoon or 5 ml), agave nectar (one teaspoon or 5ml), aloe vera essential oil, grapefruit seed oil, a small funnel and a small spray bottle. Here is how you can have your hair spray ready in five minutes: Pour the purified water into the bottle, using your funnel.
Add the aloe vera juice.
Shake well.
Add the almond oil and the agave nectar.
Shake really well.
Add 8 drops of aloe vera essential oil.
Add 2 drops of grapefruit seed essential oil.
Put the spray nozzle onto the bottle.
Shake well.
Your hairspray will last longer if you keep it refrigerated when you are not using it.

In fact, all the oils in this recipe are incredibly rich in vitamins and anti-oxidants, and the essential oils will cleanse your follicles and stimulate hair growth, as well as leaving your scalp and hair smelling great. Chapter 13 - Anti-dandruff conditioner Dandruff is a real nuisance and it can be embarrassing, but, what is more, it is not at all healthy for your scalp and hair. Apart from making sure you have a diet rich in vitamin (especially E and B, but don’t overdo vitamin B12 as it can cause dandruff when in excess) and zinc, you can use the beneficial powers of essential oils to treat it. Some essential oils have strong disinfectant and anti-fungal properties, which will help prevent and eliminate the formation of dandruff on your scalp. You will need castor oil (1/2 cup, or 4 oz or 120 ml), coconut oil (1/2 cup, or 4 oz or 120 ml), extra virgin olive oil (1 teaspoon or 5 ml), vegetable glycerine (1 teaspoon or 5 ml), emulsifying wax (1 tablespoon, ½ oz or 15 gr.), 2 capsules of vitamin E, Indian lilac essential oil, cedar wood essential oil, tea tree essential oil, a bowl, a saucepan, a spoon, a squeezable plastic bottle and a funnel. Chapter 14 - Normal hair rejuvenating shampoo Sometimes we forget that even what we call ‘normal’ hair, that is, hair that is not dry or oily, needs nourishing. Even normal hair gets a bit tired and less vibrant at times, very often during winter, when wind and cold can damage your hair. This shampoo will give a shiny gloss to your hair; it will keep it soft, and the great rejuvenating properties of nettle. You will need a bar of Castile soap (8 oz or 250 gr., which is the average bar), jojoba oil (1/2 cup, or 4 oz, about 120 ml), coconut oil (4 tablespoons, or 2 oz, equivalent to 60 ml), nettle essential oil, thyme essential oil, sage essential oil, a squeezable plastic bottle, a knife, a bowl, a funnel, a kettle. Once you have all the ingredients, follow these steps: Cut the Castile soap bar into slices, making sure each one is about ½ inch or 1 cm thick.
Put the Castile soap into a bowl and pour half a cup of hot water on it.
As the soap starts melting, stir with a spoon and add just enough water to melt the soap completely.
Leave the liquid Castile soap to chill for a few hours.
When it has chilled, using a funnel, pour the liquid soap into the squeezable plastic bottle.
Add the coconut and the jojoba oil and stir well.
Add 15 drops of nettle essential oil.
Add 6 drops of thyme essential oil.
Add 4 drops of sage essential oil.
Shake well.
Your shampoo is now ready and you can now use it!
Chapter 15 - Natural hair colouring for brittle and flaky hair Colouring your hair with off-the-shelf dyes can seriously damage your hair, especially if it tends to be dry, as most products are bleach-based and they dehydrate your hair, ultimately weakening it. So, if your hair has become brittle due to artificial dyes, it is time you reconsider what you put on your head and replace it with a natural product that nourishes your hair instead of damaging it. You will need henna (2 oz or 60 gr.), make sure the henna is slightly lighter (one tone lighter to be precise) than the colour you want to have on your hair, as the essential oils will darken it; you will also need coconut oil (about 2 oz or 60 ml), a bowl, a clean spoon, a brush, cypress essential oil, basil essential oil, lemon essential oil. The steps you need to follow are very easy and are similar to the normal process of applying henna, but there are some key differences: Pour the henna in the bowl, add the coconut oil and mix well.
Add 10 drops of cypress essential oil.
Add 5 drops of basil essential oil.
Add 2 drops of lemon essential oil.
Stir well.
Leave the mixture to rest at room temperature for an hour. Do not hurry, as this the necessary time for the oils to penetrate the henna, and keep nourishing your hair for a long time. You will also be able to see the change in the colour of the henna and adjust it before you put it on your hair if necessary.
Wash your hair and pat-dry it until it is damp, but not fully dry.
Wear an old towel or t-shirt around your neck, the henna will stain you otherwise.
Using the brush, apply the henna to your hair, starting from the roots and brushing along the length of your hair.
Leave the henna on your hair for about twenty minutes.
Wash your hair.
The essential oils have now been sealed into the henna and will continue to nourish your hair slowly and over a long period.
Chapter 16 - Hot oil treatment for hair suffering from winter damage In winter, the wind and cold affect our hair badly; you will notice that it usually becomes thinner, more brittle, drier and you will have more annoying split ends. Essential oils can be used not only to rehydrate your hair, but to give back to your hair the nutrients that it has lost in the damage. This particular treatment will also improve the circulation of blood in your scalp, thus stimulating the follicles. It’s not at all difficult to prepare and it’s ideal when you are stuck at home on long winter nights. You will need avocado oil (2 oz or 60 ml), hemp oil (1 oz or 30 ml), jojoba oil (1 oz or 30 ml), a bowl, peppermint essential oil, geranium essential oil, thyme essential oil, a squeezable plastic bottle, a pan, a brush, a towel, a small funnel. First, prepare the oil using these easy steps: Pour the avocado oil, the jojoba oil and the hemp oil into the squeezable bottle using the funnel.
Close the bottle and shake well.
Add 10 drops of peppermint essential oil.
Add 8 drops of thyme essential oil.
Add 4 drops of geranium essential oil.
Close the bottle and shake very well.
Store in a cool and dry place, away from light.
Your oil is now ready; all you need to know is how to use it:
Pour 1 oz (30 ml) of oil in a bowl.
Put some water in a pan, just enough to reach half the height of the bowl.
Put the pan on very, very low fire and the bowl in the pan.
Heat the water for about 5 minutes.
Check that the oil is very warm, but not scorching hot.
With the brush, apply the oil to your hair and scalp; make sure you wear a towel around your neck.
Wrap your head in a warm towel.
Keep the oil on your head for 20 minutes, or till it becomes cold.
Wash your hair when you have finished.
Chapter 17 - Sun-damaged hair spray In summer, our hair can become damaged by UV light, salt (if you go to the seaside) and dry air conditions. We also tend to spend much more time outdoors in summer, so, we need to protect not just our skin, but also our hair from sun damage. What could be better than a refreshing and protecting, as well as totally natural and cheap, hair spray to put in your beach bag and spray at will on your hair on sunny days? You will need a small plastic spray bottle, purified water (1 oz or 30 ml), aloe vera juice (1 oz or 30 ml), sweet almond oil (one teaspoon or 5 ml), 3 vitamin D capsules, aloe vera essential oil, essential oil of carrot seed, essential oil of frankincense, a small funnel and a small spray bottle and a pin. Here is how you can have your hair spray ready in five minutes: Pour the purified water into the bottle, using your funnel.
Add the aloe vera juice.
Shake well.
Add the sweet almond oil.
Pierce the vitamin D capsules and squeeze them into the bottle.
Shake very well.
Add 10 drops of aloe vera essential oil.
Add 4 drops of frankincense essential oil.
Add 4 drops of carrot seed essential oil.
Screw the spray nozzle onto the bottle.

Remember to shake the bottle well before spraying, and keep it in your refrigerator when you don’t need to use it; it will keep for longer and it will feel fresher!
Chapter 18 - Sun-damaged hair gel Is your hair dry and flaky because you have spent a long time in the sun? Don’t panic; this does not mean that you can’t style your hair any more. True, sun-damaged hair can be hard to style; the more you wish to bend it to your will, the more it appears to snap. On top of this, if you use chemical styling gels, they may end up making the sun damage even worse. What you need is a natural gel that holds your hair in place while treating the damage the sun has caused and protect your hair from UV light. The great think is that it’s easy to make! You will need distilled or filtered water (250 ml, or 1 cup), vegetable gelatine (1 tablespoon or ½ oz or 15 gr.), a small pan, a funnel, a small jar, frankincense essential oil, rose seed essential oil, two capsules of vitamin D and a sewing pin. Follow these easy steps, and you’ll have your own hair gel very soon: Pour the water in the saucepan and heat it slowly on very low fire for about 3 minutes; do not bring to boil; remove the pan from the fire as soon as you see the very first small bubbles.
Add the vegetable gelatine and stir well.
Let your base gel cool for about 30 minutes.
Pierce the vitamin D capsules with the sewing pin and squeeze them into the gel.
Stir well.
Pour the mixture into your jar using a funnel, close and put it in your refrigerator for three hours.
Take the jar out of the fridge and stir.
Add 10 drops of rose seed essential oil.
Add 6 drops of frankincense essential oil.
Mix well and store in a dry and cool place.
Chapter 19 - Summer hair colouring This colouring recipe is particularly indicated if your hair is of a light colour, including grey, as lighter hair is particularly susceptible to UV rays and gets easily damaged in summer. You will need henna (2 oz or 60 gr.), choose henna that is one tone lighter to be than the colour you want to have on your hair because the essential oils will darken it; you will also need coconut oil (about 2 oz or 60 ml), a bowl, a clean spoon, a brush, carrot seed essential oil, frankincense essential oil, three capsules of vitamin D and a pin. The steps you need to follow are very easy and are similar to the normal process of applying henna, but there are some key differences: Pour the henna in the bow.
Add the coconut oil to the henna and mix well.
Add 10 drops of carrot seed essential oil.
Add 6 drops of frankincense essential oil.
Pierce the vitamin D capsules with the pun and squeeze them into the henna.
Stir well.
Leave the mixture to rest at room temperature for an hour. Do make sure you wait for at least one hour, as this is the time it will take the oils to penetrate the henna, so they can keep protecting and repairing your hair for a long time. You will also be able to see the change in the colour of the henna and adjust it before you put it on your hair if you need to.
Wash your hair and pat-dry it until it is damp, but do not dry fully.
Wear an old towel around your neck as the henna will stain you otherwise.
Using the brush, apply the henna to your hair, starting from the roots and brushing along the length of your hair.
Leave the henna on your hair for about twenty minutes.
Wash your hair with warm water.
Chapter 20 – Hair spray to treat bad smell Some of us have an active physical life, and if you are one of those who do, or if you spend a long time in damp places, your scalp and hair can sometimes smell unpleasant. This is because damp and heat (as well as sweat) can offer bacteria an ideal breeding ground to proliferate. You may not always have a chance to wash your hair several times during the day, thus, having a bottle of disinfectant, deodorant and anti-fungal spray with you can come in really handy. It’s very easy to make too! You will need a small plastic spray bottle, purified water (1 oz or 30 ml), aloe vera juice (1 oz or 30 ml), agave nectar (one teaspoon or 5ml), essential oil of eucalyptus, essential oil lemon grass, essential oil tea tree, a small funnel and a small spray bottle. Follow these easy steps; it will really take you only a few minutes: Use the funnel to pour the purified water into the bottle.

Shake well.
Add the agave nectar to the mixture.
Shake very well.
Add 5 drops of tea tree essential oil.
Add 5 drops of eucalyptus essential oil.
Add 5 more drops of lemongrass essential oil.
Put the spray nozzle back onto the bottle.

First of all, you should make sure that your shampoo is as natural and as neutral as possible; ironically, this will also mean that it may be the cheapest; as we all know, many of the chemicals in shampoos are not good news for your hair; instead of wasting money on a shampoo with a glossy name and bottle, invest a few seconds turning the bottle and reading the ingredients: if you read too many words you have never heard of, it should ring an alarm bell. As not everybody uses conditioners and hair lotions, these last five ideas are really perfect for everybody, as most of the time spent looking after our hair is usually when shampooing it for the average person. Finally, adding essential oils to shampoos is very easy, while, as you have seen, you need to add them with the right procedure and at the right stage in conditioners, lotions etc. Ready? Here we go.

Once you have removed the cap from your shampoo bottle, add 1 tablespoon (15 ml or ½ oz) of extra virgin olive oil.

The difference is that once you have your three bottles of essential oils, bought at the same price as a single bottle of a top range anti-dandruff shampoo, you will have enough essential oils to make your own anti-dandruff shampoo for a year (and you won’t have damaged the environment). Unscrew the shampoo bottle and add 10 drops of wintergreen essential oil.

Finally, add 10 drops of cypress essential oil, which will stop the follicles from producing too much oil.
