Description Joss Griffith was all alone in the world now after her mother’s death. She the only family she had known all her life. Now that she was gone, she had to rediscover herself. She couldn’t stay at their house anymore. She had grown up there and watched her mother struggle with depression for years. She had been sick since they lost her father and brother. Her mother had not taken the news too well and this had made it difficult for Joss to grow up, but not anymore. She was going on a road trip. He needed to do that all by herself but she didn’t know she would meet the love of her life. She had not expected her life to take a dramatic turn not until when she met Ben Brighton…
Chapter 1 Joss Griffin sat in the car at a gas station wondering what she would do with her life. She had recently lost her mother and there was nothing more left for her in San Diego, California. She wanted to get out of the city and travel to any place that wouldn’t remind her of her ugly past. She had decided to start making new memories just days after her mom passed on. Her best friend, Lucy Anderson had just taught her to drive. She barely stepped out of the house when her mother was still alive. She had been sick for years, which had had an effect on Joss’ life. Joss had been home schooled since the third grade after her father and brother perished in an accident. Her mother, Jessica Griffin had been diagnosed mentally unstable months after. She had been afraid of the dark, or even stepping outside. Thus, she had insisted that Joss should never go out, for any reason. “Don’t go out there sweetie, there is danger everywhere.” Jessica warned her daughter whenever she stepped outside. She had grown up with no friends and no social life. However, she had always managed to sneak out of the window, and played with her neighbor, Lucy. The Andersons had loved Joss and always invited her over to their house.
“But mom, I need a friend to play with.” Joss had said one day after her mother warned her from going outside. “You want to leave me all alone like your brother and father did?” Her mother would ask. Joss would coil herself into a corner, fearing the beating her mother would give her if she went outside. She had not been old enough to realize that her mother was not well. She was raised in a state of fear and isolation and now that her mother was gone, she had no idea where to begin. She barely knew the neighborhood. Her mother would prepare meals for four, include his deceased father and brother. The food would go stale after days while Jessica still insisted that they would come. “Mum, they are gone; they will never come back to us.”She would say to her mother. She had wanted her to be well again. “Don’t say that Joss, your brother and father will be back shortly.” Jessica would tell her. Joss was interrupted by a knock on the car window. A tall masculine figure stood beside her car. He signaled her to let the window down which she did. She had been lost in her thoughts that she had forgotten she had been occupying the gas pump for minutes.
“Hey, are you okay?” The man asked, smiling at Joss. “Um, yeah. Am alright.” She replied. “You’ve been here for ten minutes. Do you need help with anything?” he insisted. “No. I think I am fine.” She lied. The reason why she had been sitting in the car was because she had never used the gas pump before and she was too embarrassed to ask. She had recently learned how drive, how could she know how to fill up the car? She stepped out of the car and walked to the pump. The young man leant on the pump watching Joss. She was tall, 5’8 at most with a beautiful body. She wore shot denim jeans pair of shorts and a white tank top Lucy had bought her before she left. She had wanted to take on a road trip and experience life. Joss delayed reaching out for the nozzle of the gas pump. She had no slight idea what she was supposed to do with it. She looked at the man standing beside her now. He knew that she needed help with that but she was way too afraid to ask. “Can I help you with that?” The man asked. This time, Joss detected a strange accent.
“Is that British accent I detect” She asked, smiling warmly at him. The man moved towards her and stood behind her. She was a little uncomfortable but she didn’t move. Instead, she concentrated on his muscular arms as he reached out for the nozzle. “You’ve never done this before, have you?” He asked as he filled up the tank, smiling at her. He could feel his body reacting to the sight of the beautiful woman in front of him. “Thank you very much.” She said when the man was finished. “It’s no big deal love. I am always up to helping a beautiful lady, you know.” He said. “And by the way, my name is Ben.” He added. She smiled at him. “Joss, nice to meet you Ben.” She said back as she walked around her car to the driver’s seat. Before she could open the door, Ben hurriedly opened it for her. “Oh, the pleasure is all mine my lady” Ben said, smiling at her cheekily. Joss smiled back at him as he closed the door with her fastening her safety belt. Ben watched her start the car and left the gas station. Joss couldn’t stop herself from smiling as she drove away. She was not used to meeting warm
people all her life. She was scared of the world her mother had always protected her from. It turned out that not every human was cruel as her mother had taught her. She was more encouraged to enjoy her trip more than ever. Something inside off her was excited after meeting Ben but Lucy had warned her against random men. She had known that Joss had not been exposed to the outside world. She had warned her against people who would use her and break her heart. She recalled the conversation; “You have no idea what people out there could do to you Joss. I am even afraid of letting you go on your own.” Lucy had said when they were shopping for her trip. “I promise I will be careful Lucy.” She had replied. “You shouldn’t trust just anyone out there Jo.” Lucy continued. “I would have come with you but there are things you have to do on your own. And this is one of them.” “You’re right. I need to rediscover myself on my own Lucy, but anytime I will call you.” She promised her only friend.
Chapter 2 Joss was driving slowly listening to some of the music Lucy had given her. She had been thinking of her mother and her new life on her own. It was a little exciting to be free of her own mother but then again, she couldn’t keep herself from thinking about her. She had never met any other family members, not one she could count on. However, the Andersons had been there for her. They had given her the old Volvo car she was driving among other things. Lucy had lent her one cell phone so that she could call them whenever she needed something. Two hours after driving for miles, Joss decided to take a break and get something to eat. She pulled over the restaurant and as she stepped out of the vehicle, she noticed a couple of men staring at her. They were all riding big motorcycles but had also decided to take a rest. She was shy and could feel eyes on her behind as she walked into the restaurant. Suddenly she heard noises, it was as if the men sitting outside of the restaurant were cheering and applauding on something. She looked back only to see Ben pulling over his bike just next to the others. She was surprised to see him but part of her was happy to see him. It felt like they had been friends or something.
She wondered if Ben was part of the group or he had been following her. She didn’t think too much about it then as she was starving. She took the table at the far end corner of the restaurant before the waiter came smiling towards her. She was not used to restaurants and she was again surprised on the welcome he offered. He handed her a menu and left her to go through it. She ordered a glass of sparkling water before settling on a chicken hamburger. Few minutes later, her order was brought and she was excited. All her life, she had wanted this, to eat out with no one scaring her about the dangers lurking outside. She remembered her mother’s warnings again. This time, she remembered everything she said before she died. Joss had sneaked out of the house with Lucy to go attend prom night at Lucy’s school. It was her first party to attend and she had never seen anything more beautiful. All the lighting and beautiful people; it was where she met her first boyfriend Mark and it was also the night she lost her virginity. That night was filled with ugly memories from that experience to finding her mother lying in a pool of blood. “Hey beautiful.” Mark had approached her. “Hey.” She said back. She had never been approached by a boy all her life and there she was. At the exact moment where her body was calling and she
wanted to try stuff. She had always heard Lucy talk of how she had kissed her boyfriend George. “Do you want to get out of her, I could use some fresh air.” Mark had offered. She had been all alone and now that a person had given her attention, she couldn’t say no. She accepted as Mark offered his hand and escorted her out. They went to the football pitch and he held her tightly close to him. She had never felt safer than she had with him, despite meeting him on the very same night. She didn’t resist as he pulled her forward and pressed her against the goal post. He kissed her and she kissed him back. She had been afraid of intimacy but as Mark gently kissed her lips, se let go of the fear and hungrily kissed him back. They were both breathing heavily and she was letting her guards down little by little. Mark had been aroused and lost control. He lifted her dress and slipped his hands to reach out for her crotch. He slid his finger into her and felt her wetness. She had only been an innocent girl and he took advantage. He then slid his manhood into her and kept thrusting even as she warned him to slow down. He wouldn’t hear it. He just kept going and going until he was done with her. She couldn’t stop crying that night from the trauma. But Mark had apologized claiming that he got carried away. As traumatized as she was that night, she pulled herself together on her way home. She didn’t want her mother to know that she had been hurt. She
hopped into Lucy’s car as they drove off from the school. On reaching home, they both could see the police outside her house. She thought her mother had called them to report her missing daughter but there was no sign of her mother. The neighbors, including the Andersons surrounded her homestead and something told Joss all was not okay. She hopped out of the car and ran towards the house only to see her mother’s body lying motionless. She had blamed herself, she should have stayed home and maybe, just maybe her mother would have survived. How could she be so cruel to leave her on her own? That’s not what her mommy had taught her, she should have stayed home and taken care of her. She stayed at Anderson’s but she couldn’t stop blaming herself. She wished and prayed that her mother would forgive her. She needed her even as ill as she had been. She would always carry the guilty in her heart. Lucy had tried to console her but it didn’t work. “Come on, it’s not your fault.” Lucy had said. “What do you mean it’s not my fault?” Joss was angry with herself.” I should have been there Lucy. I should have.” She kept saying that.
“I know but there is nothing you could have done to change that honey.” Lucy’s mother said to her, handing her a cup of English tea. Lucy sat there with her, hugging her to console her dear friend. Joss stayed in bed for days, not eating or talking to anyone. She didn’t even attend her own mother’s funeral. She could face the fact that the only person she had really connected with was gone. “Hey, Joss, right?” A voice interrupted her thoughts. She looked up only to see Ben. She almost choked on her burger. “Hey, Ben.” She said. She had not expected him to follow her in. “How did you know I was here?” She acted surprised. “I didn’t. I just came in here to get some food. It’s getting late though.” Ben lied. He had already seen Joss’ car and his biker friends had talked about a sexy lady in sexy shorts. He had known it must have been her. “So much of you getting just food in here, and seeing me at this corner, huh.” Joss doubted his intentions. Ben smiled at her cheekily and took a seat opposite where she was seated. He had a broad chest and this time, Joss was able to catch a glimpse of his lit blue eyes. He was full of life and he had this smile that kept Joss staring at his beautiful mouth.
“So where exactly are you headed to?” Ben asked when he noticed that Joss was shy. “Nowhere in particular. I just want to rediscover myself.” She said innocently. “Rediscover yourself, huh.” Ben wasn’t sure what that really meant. From the first time he laid his eyes on her, he had thought that she was composed. How wrong he was. “Yes, sometimes we all need that time to find our true selves.” Joss said. “I don’t know about that Joss.” Ben said reaching out to hold her hands which she comfortably rested on the table. She looked up at his face and he looked at her right back. It was impossible to avoid staring at Joss’ face. She had a dimple on each cheek and her Mexican hair said it all. Ben looked at her eyes which seemed to attract him even more. “So, it’s almost 5pm, why don’t you join me and my friends at a party tonight? It’s a part of recovery you know.” He offered. She looked down at a piece of burger she had left and thought about Ben’s offer. After all, she was in the verge of discovering what she really wanted with her life and taking risks was one of the major decisions she had to face.
However she hesitated answering him when she remembered what Lucy had told her about men. She was not to trust any of them. “I don’t know about that Ben.” She said “You should think about it.” Ben insisted. They were holding an all bikers party at a motel just two miles from the restaurant. Joss decided to attend the party; it would be the very first party she would be attending on her own. Since it was getting late in the evening, she drove off to the motel Ben had told her about. She would spend the night there before embarking on her road trip.
Chapter 3 Joss pulled her vehicle in front of Grudge Motel. She was met by the door man who took her keys to park her Volvo. She wasn’t sure if that’s the way things should be but she handed him the keys. There was a room attendant who took her bag from her hand and escorted her inside. She waited to be offered her room and within a few minutes, she was shown to her room. “Do you need anything Ma’am?” The room attendant asked after she put her bags into the wardrobe. “No, I think I am doing just fine.” She replied, smiling warmly at her. The room attendant closed the door behind her and Joss could hear her footsteps trailing downstairs. She was tired from driving and she had to take a bath before Ben and his friends arrived at the motel for the party. She took her clothes off as she headed for the bathroom. There lay a Jacuzzi and two taps, a red one and a blue one. Joss had never used a Jacuzzi before and she had no idea what the taps were meant for. She pressed the red button and hot water flowed into the tub. She figured out that the blue button was for cold water to cool down the hot water in the tab. Again she picked up the shower gel placed in the cabin just above the Jacuzzi. She poured some gel
in the tub before dipping her left leg followed by her right and then her body. Feeling the water against her body as the best feeling she had had in ages. She could not remember the last time she was alone and relaxed. She stayed in the tub for half an hour, memories of her lonely childhood lingering in her mind. It felt just like yesterday she had lost her mother despite the fact that she had passed on just three months before. She had loved her mother and she would do anything to bring her back. Sadly, there wasn’t anything left for her in San Diego. She wiped the water from her body using the motel towels as she walked slowly to the ward robe. She wanted to wear something exciting. At least she would have fun that evening. She could hear people laughing loudly and talking but she couldn’t make out what they were saying. She figured out that Ben and his bikers had arrived at the motel. She opened her travel bag and got out a sexy black top and a blue pair of denim jeans shorts. She took out her lotion and rubbed it against her skin. A part of her was scared as she had never been at a party with random people in her life but she really wanted to attend the party. As soon as she was done dressing, she took a final look at the mirror and she was convinced that she looked great to party. She walked out of the door and locked it behind her. She walked slowly downstairs but
stopped at the sight of Ben. He stared at her from head to toe and she could read his lips as he uttered ‘wow’ to himself. She proceeded to meet him. Ben had never seen a more beautiful woman like Joss was. He had been with multiple women, he knew some of them but others were just strangers to him. He wouldn’t recall some of them. However, there was something special about Joss from the moment he met her at the gas station, and then again at the restaurant. He knew he wanted her and hoped he would have a chance with her after the party. When Joss approached Ben’s table, his friends applauded at her. There were other girls sitting on the other men’s laps. Others were dancing as the waiters delivered their orders. She walked to where Ben was sitting but he arose from his seat. He held her by the hand and pulled her to him. She seemed more scared than excited. “Sorry if I hurt you.” Ben said when he noticed that she wasn’t happy. Usually when he pulled women to him, they seemed pretty charmed by the move. “No, it’s okay.” Joss said, facing down to avoid Ben’s sharp eyes. She was usually shy but she fought it. Ben sat down and just as Joss reached out to get another chair, Ben sat her on his lap. She wanted to resist but she wouldn’t. She wanted to fit in and
seeing the other girls drinking while sitting on the other bikers laps, she stayed. She couldn’t find the right words to express how she felt at that moment. Ben waved his hand and a waiter came rushing towards where they were seated. “What would you like to drink?” Ben asked, looking straight at Joss. “I’ll have what you are having.” She replied. She had never tasted alcohol all her life. She had been indoors most of her life but she had always watched people on TV. “Okay, two beers please.” Ben said. “Right away Mr. Brighton.” The waiter said as he left the table. He walked to the counter and ordered two cold beers before returning to their table. He opened the bottles and handed one to Joss and the other to Ben. “Mr. Brighton, huh.” Joss said in a low voice. “They always call me that around here. But call me Ben.” Ben insisted. His father, George Brighton was well known as he owned an oil company. People often respected Ben knowing that he was the son of a local tycoon.
“You come here often?” She continued as she took her first sip from the bottle, just like the other ladies were. She choked on the beer and spilled some on Ben’s shirt. “Oh my God, I am so sorry.” She uttered. “It’s okay Joss,” Ben said as he wiped his shirt using the Kleenex tissues on the table. “You’ve never tasted alcohol in your life, have you?” He asked. “No.” Joss admitted, ashamed that she knew almost nothing about life. “I am so embarrassed.” She said. “Don’t be, we all started somewhere you know.” Ben said, caressing her back gently. “It’s confusing how you are well known around here yet your accent differs.” She continues. Something inside of her wanted to really know Ben. He seemed like a nice person. “I lived in London until I was eleven, with my mother. I haven’t been able to shed off the accent but I try.” Ben explained. He held Joss and laid her head on his chest. “Well, that explains it.” Joss said, contented with his response.
“Since you are asking me questions, I’ve got to ask this; why are you on a road trip? You’re like nineteen.” He asked. “Some things are better left unsaid Ben Brighton.” Joss replied as she reached out for her beer. This time she took a large sip from the bottle but this time she didn’t choke. “Easy.” Ben cautioned her. “Be my teacher Ben.” Joss said. She really needed to have fun, at least one night where she didn’t have to worry about nothing. “With pleasure Joss.” He said back to her. She was so innocent and vulnerable in his arms. A part of him wanted to rip her clothes off and make sweet love to this beautiful girl he just met but he just couldn’t do it. He needed her to open up to him as he could tell she was a troubled soul.
Chapter 4 It surprised Joss how comfortable and safe she felt with Ben. She had never had someone to lean on except Lucy, who was like a sister to her. She sat on his laps and she could feel herself get carried away by the passion he had. She wasn’t sure if she was just lonely or she was really attracted to Ben. She had been drinking beer after beer until the bikers ordered endless shots of Bourbon whiskey. “I am not sure you should start doing this love.” Ben warned Joss as she reached out for the liquor. “Why not, you’ll take care of me, won’t you now.” Joss retorted, imitating the British accent from Ben. Everybody laughed at her but she was too drunk to realize what she just did. Instead, she laughed with everybody else. “Hey, bitch.” One of Ben’s friends approached her. She held her by the waste and pulled her close to him. Joss was scared but she didn’t flinch. Instead, she just stood there. She swept her eyes across the bar room looking for Ben but she couldn’t find him. He was the only person who seemed to care what happened to her. Luckily, she saw him coming from the washrooms.
“What’s going on here?” Ben asked as he rushed towards the two. Joss seemed to be struggling to get away from the man. “Easy, man.” The man said pushing Ben away. A wave of anger swept through Ben but he composed himself. The last thing he needed that particular night was to fight. He held Joss’ hand and pulled her away from the guy. “Don’t touch her again Chris. Just leave her alone.” Ben said, composing himself not to punch him in the face. “Did he do anything to you, love?” He asked Joss. “No, he didn’t. But thanks for looking out for me.” Joss said. She was completely drunk from the multiple drinks she had had that night. It was around 11pm when she finally decided to go back to her room. She needed to get enough rest before she could drive towards Los Angeles the next morning. “I really need to throw up.” She said when they approached her room. Ben carried her in his arms and rushed her to the bathroom. She had started vomiting on him and the floor. “Hey, take it easy.” Ben said as he held her hair back when she leant down to the toilet. She was vomiting her heat out at that moment.
“This is gross.” Joss said. “Go away.” “No, I have done this before.” Ben said. He wanted to stay with her until she was okay. She was too delicate. Joss freshened up after the messy evening before joining Ben who sat on the bed waiting for her. “Are you alright?” He asked. “Yes, thanks for staying with me.” She said, barely looking at him. “I brought you into this mess. So I have to make sure that you’re okay.” Ben said standing up as if to leave. “I hope you will be fine Joss.” “Stay a little bit longer.” She uttered out loud. For some reason she wanted him to stay. “Are you sure you want me to stay?” Ben was unsure but he really wanted to stay. He had wanted this from the moment he saw her and he could say no to her. “Yeah, of course I want you to stay the night.” Joss said. She sat beside him quietly. She had no idea what to speak to him about. He was the sweetest person she had ever met.
Ben put his arms around him and pulled Joss close to him. She felt fragile in his strong arms but he was careful not to hurt her. She felt comforted and raised her chin to look at him. The two looked at each other straight to the eye for a minute before their lips met. Ben hungrily kissed her soft lips with passion; she kissed him back and for a moment they were lost in the world of pleasure. Ben laid her on the bed as they kissed. He lay on top of her. They broke away from the kiss and Ben looked at Joss in the eye and she smiled in acknowledgement. “Slow down.” She said when Ben almost tore her top apart. A part of her wanted him to rip her clothes apart but then again she was scared of intimacy. Maybe all men were like Mark, would he end up hurting her or would he listen to her. “You have done this before, right?” Ben asked. He wanted her to be as comfortable as possible. He never would do anything with her as long as she approved. “I have but I didn’t like it.” She said between heavy breaths. “The boy wouldn’t listen to me at all.” She added. At this point, Ben didn’t know the right words to say to her to make her feel calm. He stared at her wondering what kind of an idiot would bear to see this
beautiful girl get hurt. He didn’t know whether to go ahead and make sweet love to her or to stop. He was torn between the two. “Hey, it doesn’t mean I don’t want to.” Joss said when she noticed Ben was confused and had slowed down. “I don’t know Joss. If you were just any other person, I would have done this earlier, believe me I don’t hesitate.” Ben said, sitting up on the bed. “And what’s stopping you. I am just any other girl you met at a gas station.” Joss continued. “No Joss. You aren’t just any other girl. You are special, and believe me you, I mean it.” Ben emphasized. “I have no idea what makes you say that Ben.” Joss said. “I think I will leave now. Take care of yourself.” He said before he left her room. Joss couldn’t understand why he suddenly left. She really wanted to have him for the night. This was just but a part of life she wanted to experience. She ran after him before he went down the stairs. “Please stay. I insist.” She said.
Ben turned around to face her and she kissed him deeply. He couldn’t resist kissing her back. Joss held his hand and led him back to her room. Before they got into the room, Ben pressed Joss against the wall and kissed her passionately. There was nothing he wanted more than to feel his body against hers. He swept her off her feet and she wrapped her long legs around his waist. Ben kicked the door open and put Joss on her bed. She had started moaning from the kisses but Ben wouldn’t stop. She loved every trail he left on her body with his moist lips. He hurriedly took off his shirt before helping Joss out of hers. He got even more aroused when her perky breasts. She wasn’t wearing any bra. The scene of her naked body sent chills down his spine. “Are you okay?” Joss asked him when she noticed that Ben was still staring at her breasts. “I am more than okay love.” He replied as he pressed her against the soft fabric of the duvet spread on her bed. He resumed kissing her but with time with vigor and desire. He could feel his blood boiling through his vessels. Joss was enjoying every pleasurable moment with Ben. He paid attention to all her spots and this almost made her jump out of her skin. She had never in her life wanted anything more than she wanted Ben in her. She was
yearning for his erect manhood which she could feel pressing against her. She undid his black jeans letting his erection out. Her eyes popped out at the sight of him. Ben hurriedly took off her shorts and kissed her slowly, but it took her breath away. He wanted to drive his manhood in her and thrust hard but he couldn’t. He remembered she had told him that it had not been as exciting the first time. He swore to be the guy who would make it up to her. Joss was running out of breath. She could feel Ben’s erection at her opening. She was excited and wanted him to driving in but he kept teasing her. He finally entered her slowly and Joss gasped for air. He was big, bigger that she had imagined. He drove in and out, slowly at first but increased his pace. She was moaning softly as she dug her nails into his back. Ben kept going, paying attention at her every move. The two moved in unison as they made love. She had never been happier. She felt a strong wave sweep rough her and they both climaxed. Ben kissed her before he rolled over. Their bodies were covered in sweat and they were both humping. “Baby you are the sweetest girl I have ever met.” Ben said as he kissed her on the forehead. She smiled warmly as Ben moved closer to her and cuddled her to sleep. The two fell asleep in each other’s arms as the night went by.
Chapter 5 Joss woke up the next morning with her head feeling heavy. She had drunk too much alcohol for a beginner. She remembered everything about Ben but she couldn’t find him on her bed. She thought he had gone to the bathroom to freshen up but he wasn’t. However, he had left a note on the nightstand which read; Sorry I had to leave without saying a proper good bye. Please call me through this number. Ben. She was angry at him. How could he leave her just like that? Maybe it was just sex to him but for some reason, it meant much more than just sex to her. It was the most erotic moment she had ever had in her life. She had enjoyed every moment he held her in his arms. She had felt safe, and loved; a feeling she was not used to. After all, it was just an encounter, nothing more, she said to herself as she tossed the piece of paper in the dirt bin at the corner of her room. She couldn’t afford to stay at the motel for another night. She had to make more memories during her trip.
She went into the bathroom and took a long warm shower. It was still tingling between her legs from last night. She gently washed herself clean before dressing in a white bubble dress. She repacked her bags and left the room. Her car was brought to her and she drove off after clearing her bills. In the car, she wondered what life held for her. She had set her mind that she would go to Los Angeles, one of the expensive cities around the world. She was only a few hours to Los Angeles. She was scared that she would not be able to live on her own. She had to get some work at some point since all she had was a few hundred dollars. Lucy had suggested that once she got to LA, it would be better if she got herself a job. That could have at least catered for her upkeep while she was on the road. She remembered how her mother had sung beautiful songs to her. She would make her sleep after singing multiple lullaby songs until she grew up, then her mother would make her sing. She could sing sad songs for her mom for hours, and watch her cry. “Come on, please sing for me sweetie” Her mother would say to her while preparing dinner in the kitchen. “Which song mommy?” Little Joss would ask. She had always thought that it had been their thing until one day she refused to sing. She had been sad all day but her mother insisted that she should sing.
“But mum, I don’t want to sing. I am too tired today.” She had said. “Why are you doing this to me Joss?” Her mother retorted. “I am sorry mommy. I will sing for you.” Joss finally gave in. At that point, she noticed that her mother was unwell. Sadly, she didn’t know any of their other relatives. She should have sought help from them and maybe her mother would have been alive. By the time she realized that she had been sick since they lost her father and brother, there was literally nothing that would have saved her. She wouldn’t take her medicine and she wouldn’t talk to no other than Joss. Joss fell a tear fall on her cheek. Every memory she had of her mother was painful. She didn’t deserve to suffer the way she had. The night before her mother passed away, Joss had prepared dinner for them. Her mother had insisted that she should have prepared dinner for four, like she used to but Joss wasn’t crazy. “Why didn’t you count you father and brother for dinner Joss?” Her mother had asked. “Mom, they are never coming back.” She had replied. She had always known that she would never meet the two but her mother had insisted on the cooking.
“Don’t you ever talk about them like that?” Her mother exclaimed. “Mom, they are gone. Why do you keep insisting that they are coming back to us? You should accept and move on mom.” Joss said. It was at this point where she realized that her mother had gotten worse. She had almost killed her after attacking her with the kitchen knife. Joss had run out of the house into the backyard. Her mother would not accept to step out of the house. “Joss, come back in here.” She had never had called out but Joss had gone to the Andersons. Her thoughts were interrupted by the sight of the bill board which read: WELCOME TO LOS ANGELES She smiled to herself’. She was excited to get to the only city she had always wanted to live in. All she could see were posh cars and beautiful people. She slowed down so that she could get a good view o the city. She knew she wouldn’t be able to spend time in an expensive hotel since she didn’t have enough money. She would get a job as a waitress or bartender. She would settle for any job in LA to keep her there. She needed this. This was the life she wanted, a little girl was allowed to dream big and this was coming true.
She pulled over in front of a simple looking restaurant. There weren’t many people around, she parked her car and walked in. A waiter came towards her with a warm smile and menu in his hands. He was good looking and the uniform fit him perfectly. “Welcome to our restaurant.” The waiter said handing her the menu. She was completely overjoyed. For the very first time in her life, people were being nice to her. The world was the opposite of what her mother had told her. “Thank you….Greg.” She said, looking up to read the name tag on the waiter’s shirt. She smiled back at him. She went through the menu. She was surprised that everything was above a hundred dollars. She knew it was going to be hard to live there but she was up to the challenge. “I’ll have fries and sparkling water.” She said, trying to hide her surprise from Greg. “Right away Ma’am.” Greg said as he walked back to the kitchen to place her orders. When she sat there waiting for her order, she thought she would call Lucy. She hadn’t talked to her since the day before and she had promised to call
when she got there. She took out her cell phone and dialed Lucy’s number who picked up almost immediately. “Hey you.” She said from the other end. “Hey girl. Didn’t I miss you?” Joss said. She was excited to hear her voice. Lucy had been the only friend she ever had. “I don’t think you missed me.” Lucy said teasingly. “You know I did.” She continued. “It took you almost 48 hours to call me back and tell me you got there safely, huh.” Lucy said. She had told her to call her in case she needed anything. “Relax, will you? At least I called.” Joss said. “I met someone.” “Shut up you whore!” Lucy said, almost shouting. “Exactly how long have you been gone?” She teased. “Yeah, the first day and I have already met someone. I probably deserve that.” Joss said, smiling softly at the thought of Ben. “So, what happened?” Lucy was dying to know. “Nothing happened really.” Joss lied.
“Don’t lie to me woman” Lucy insisted. “Okay. A lot happened within one night but I will tell you all about it later. For now, I could eat someone. I am starving.” She said when she saw her waiter coming towards her carrying her order. “Okay, call me.” Lucy said. “I will call you. Bye. Love you.” Joss said before she hung up. The waiter placed her order and she noticed he was holding a paper in his hands. She could see it was a notice he wanted to put up on the wall. How lucky she was, the restaurant needed help. “Greg, are you putting up that notice?” She asked, trying not to be nosy. “Yes, we are short-staffed” Greg answered as he prepared to walk away from the table. “I could help.” She said. “Greg turned around, surprised that Joss would take up the job. “Are you sure? That would be great.” He said. “I will tell the hotel manager and he will be with you shortly”
“Thank you Greg.” She said before Greg left her table. She was hopeful that she would get the job and maybe she would be able to make a life out of herself there.
Chapter 6 The hotel manager asked for Joss after Greg told him about it. He was a tall, handsome man dressed in a black suit. He smiled at Joss when she knocked on his door. She smiled back at him sheepishly. She had never worked a day in her life before but she was positive. “Come on in.” He said to her as he arose from his seat. “My name is Jack.” He said, gesturing for her to take a seat.] “Thank you sir. I am Joss, Joss Griffin.” She said. “Greg says you asked for a job here, as a waitress.” Jack continued, looking at Joss straight to the eye. “Yes, I need this job sir.” Joss said. “And why do you need this job Joss.” The handsome man asked. To make her feel comfortable, he smiled at him every time he asked a question. “Well, sir, I am in the verge of rediscovering myself so I really need this job for a start.” Joss answered honestly. “Well then, do you happen to have brought along your resume?” Jack asked.
“No, it just so happens I saw the notice Greg was about to put up and I got interested. But I can make one as soon as possible.” Joss said. She just hoped that Jack would consider her. “Well then, it’s about to get crazy at this hour. I guess you should get your uniform right away.”Jack said. “You mean I got the job?” Joss asked. “Yes, Greg will be the one to train you. I’ll tell him to bring out a uniform for you.” He arose from
his seat and left her in his office
Before long, Greg entered the office and handed her the uniform. “I hope this one fits you. It’s the small size we have for now.” He left the room leaving her to change. She took off her dress but before she could put on the orange uniform which seemed to be a little bigger than her size, Jack entered the office and bumped into her when she has half naked. “Oh my God, am so sorry.” He said apologetically but he couldn’t stop himself from looking at her. “Stop looking.” Joss said in a startled voice. She didn’t know what else to do.
Jack came closer to where she was standing. He helped her zip up the uniform and he got carried away. He stuck his tongue in her mouth but she pushed away. “What do you think you’re doing?” She asked in a furious voice. “I am so sorry. I got carried away. You’re beautiful.”Jack said, looking at her straight to the eye. “That doesn’t mean that you should kiss me” Joss said before storming out of the office. She went straight to the kitchen where Greg was. He could see that she was furious but he didn’t care to ask what had happened. He knew Jack had a history of sexually harassing his employees. “Are you ready?” He asked with a smile on his lips. He was gorgeous and calm. “Yes, I am ready to get started. However, be soft on me, I have never done this before.” She said. “Yeah, sure. Don’t worry; this is not as hard as you may think.” Greg said. Greg spent the whole afternoon showing her around and she was able to attend to few tables at the restaurant. People loved her but at the end of the shift; she didn’t have any place to spend the night. The only person she could
confide in as Greg who offered to let her stay at his two bedroom apartment downtown. “Thank you very much Greg, I don’t know to thank you.” She said when they got to his place. “You take that bedroom. You can stay here as much as you want; maybe having roommate isn’t a bad idea after all.” Greg said as he helped Joss get her bags into the bedroom. “We could split the rent, huh.” She added. “Not until you get stable Joss.” Greg offered. He left her to settle up in her room as he went to his room to change before leaving for the gym. He was a polite gentleman and didn’t try to make a move on her. Joss had feared that he would end up demanding more than friendship but after a week of working and living together, she was certain that he meant no harm. They would drive together to work and since they mostly dined in the restaurant, they didn’t have to cook unless one of them was off from work.
One Sunday morning, Greg and Joss were not working and they decided to stay home and clean up. She stumbled upon a picture of Ben. She was surprised and asked Greg about the photo. “How do you know this guy?” She asked holding out the photo for Greg to see. “He is my cousin.” Greg answered. “Wait, how do you know Ben?” He was surprised to hear that she knew him. “Ben is your cousin. As in Ben Brighton?” She was shocked. “We have crossed paths.” She said. “Well, I don’t know to be nosy but please tell me you didn’t…” Greg said. He had always known that his cousin was not the person to get attached to. “Didn’t what?” She asked. Greg stared at her until she came around. “Oh, that.” She sighed. “He is bad news Joss.” Greg warned. “I know. So why is he always on the move with his bikers?” She asked. “He is like filthy rich. Family fortune is in his name. And he has got nothing else to do, so most of the time he loves hanging out with his friends.” Greg explained.
“Makes sense now.” She said. “How often does he come here?” She was really curious to know more about Ben. “I just invited him over for my birthday party which will be going down in a month’s time.” Greg replied. “What? I won’t attend your party if he does.” She declined. There was no way she was ever going to see Ben again. Despite meeting only once, something kept her thinking about him. Maybe it was the way he had been protective that night or maybe she just couldn’t forget about him. “I will beg if I have to, just for you to be there. You’re funny and smart and furthermore, you’ve become my best friend.” Greg said. “You will have to literally drag me there.” She continued. “Well, I don’t have a problem with lifting you up and taking you with me.” He said chuckling.
Chapter 7 Greg and Joss had become the best of friends with time. Finally, it was Greg’s birthday. Joss woke up in the morning and took a bucket of cold water. Greg was sleeping soundly but Joss had promised to surprise him. She quietly opened his bedroom door and walked to where he slept. She poured him the cold water which awoke him. “Come on, did you really have to do that?” He asked in a sad voice. Despite the fact that it was his birthday, she had really startled him from the deep sleep. “I promised to surprise you, in a bad or good way.” Joss said, laughing at Greg. She had found family in Greg. He was like the brother she had always wished for. “Happy birthday Greg!” She shouted as she handed him a box wrapped in a shinny golden paper. “Thank you Joss. What’s in it?” He asked curiously. “It’s yours, why don’t you check it out.” Joss said, smiling at him
He carefully unwrapped the paper and inside the box was a T-shirt he had always wanted, branded his favorite band. “Shut up! Is this like the original shirt from the Five Finger Death Punch?” He asked. “Yeah, it is.” Joss said. She was pleased that the shirt had impressed him. He was more excited that she had ever seen him. He hugged her tightly and lifted her up. “Thank you Joss. Damn girl!” He said. “What?” Joss asked. She couldn’t keep herself from smiling. “I didn’t expect this from you. You’re a good listener.” He said. “That’s why it’s a surprise Greg. You have a big day today; I hope you get to enjoy yourself. Happy birthday Greg.” She said before hugging him. Joss went back to her room to clean up. She had busy day buying liquor and getting Greg’s cake from the store. If at all she was going to attend the party, she would make sure that she gave it her best. She put on a pair of blue shorts and pulled over her hood jacket before leaving the house. She knew that before she got back, Ben would have arrived as Greg had told him to get there
early. She hurriedly shopped for the listed items and got back to the house. She noticed that Ben’s bike was at the parking lot. “You’ve got to be kidding me.” She uttered to herself. All this time, Greg had not mentioned anything about Joss. He had wanted to see his reaction when he saw her. Joss entered the apartment carrying the stuff she had gotten from the store. She had been preparing herself to meet Ben once again and hoped that nothing would be awkward between them. She Greg helped her take the shopping to the kitchen and she was met by the sight of a beautiful Puerto Rican woman who sat on the kitchen counter with Ben making out with her. Joss cleared her throat making them stop and turn towards her. Ben was shocked beyond words. “Joss!” That was all he managed to say. He let go of the woman and headed towards where Joss stood. The two embraced but Joss pulled away. For some reason, she was jealous that he brought another woman to the party. “Hey Ben.” She said back. “What are you doing here?” Ben asked. “I live here.” She said back, making Ben feel even more confused that he already was.
“I thought you were on a road trip.” He said. “I thought I would stay at LA for a while before embarking on that.” Joss said as she started to put away the liquor and the other items she had come with. “Well, I was going to introduce you guys but seems like you know each other too well.” Greg said as he left the kitchen. “So Ben, do you mind introducing us?” The Puerto Rican lady asked. “Um, Joss, this is my fiancée Lisa. Lisa, this is Joss.” He said. All this while, his eyes were fixed on Joss. Her sight reminded him of the night they spent together. “Fiancée?” Joss was surprised to hear that Ben was about to get married. “How long have you guys been together exactly?” She asked. “Three years now.” Lisa said, clinging on Ben’s left arm. “Three years, huh. That’s quite some time Ben.” Joss said. It hurt her that despite being engaged to Lisa, Ben had not hesitated to put her to bed. “I am happy for you guys. I wish you joy and happiness.” She finally managed to say. “Aww, you’re very sweet. Thank you.” Lisa said, smiling at Joss who left the kitchen to go to her room. Ben watched her as she left. He wished there was
anything he could do. He remembered every little detail of the night they made love in the motel. “So, how do you know, what was her name again?” Lisa asked when Joss left. “I met her at a party.” Ben answered. “A party, huh?” Lisa asked. “Lisa we talked about this. I don’t want to get married but our parents are forcing it. That’s the only reason why I am engaged to you.” Ben said, raising his
voice.
Joss had been listening to the two fight over her. She was angry at herself for sleeping with Ben, but then he never told her. He should have said he was seeing someone. She freshened up and joined the rest of the gang. There was loud music in the house; a few people had already arrived at the party. Some were drinking while others danced. When Ben saw Joss coming from the kitchen, He excused himself as though he was going to the bathroom. He pulled Joss into her bedroom once again. “Why didn’t you call me? I left my number for you.” Ben asked. “Then what would have happened if I called you Ben?” Joss asked him. “I don’t know but I really wanted you to call.” Ben answered.
“Yeah, maybe I would have assisted you cheat on your fiancée some more, huh.” Joss said in disgust. “What were you thinking?” “Listen Joss, it’s not what it looks like.” Ben tried to explain. “And what is it ‘because to me it looks like you are marrying for money.” She uttered. “So you heard.” Ben said. “I am trying to explain this to you but you won’t hear me.” He continued. “You know why I won’t hear you? Because you don’t owe me an explanation Ben. It was just a one night thing, wasn’t it?” Joss said, pulling away from him. “Oh is that so? Why are you angry if it was just a one night stand then?” Ben asked. He had been almost sure that she had feelings for him. “Get over yourself playboy.” Joss said before she walked away on him. She went to where Greg was sitting and poured herself a drink.
Chapter 8 The party was going on fine until Ben got drunk and followed Joss, who was also tipsy to her room once more. Joss turned around and tried to resist the urge to kiss Ben. She fought with all her might but the alcohol and whatever she felt for Ben got the best of her. She looked at him in the eye and he could tell what she wanted. He pressed his lips against hers. She didn’t move an inch. Instead, she just stood there, and kissed him back. She thought that she had it all in control but she didn’t. “Joss, it wasn’t just sex. I hardly remember the people I sleep with but there is something in you that made me want to know you better.” Ben said. “Sssh, you are getting married in a month and I am aroused and very attracted to you. Just shut up and kiss me.” She invited him. He placed his palms on her cheeks and kissed her passionately. She kissed him back and led him towards the center of the room, where her bed sat. Before they could get to bed, He picked her up and she wrapped her hands around his neck as she kissed him. She was too aroused to care if Lisa would find out. After all, it wasn’t love that bid them together, it was money.
Ben laid her on the bed. She took off her top, exposing her breasts. Ben stared at the little pink nipples. They were gorgeous. He threw away his shirt and hurriedly approached Joss. She smiled at him seductively and bit her lower lips making him go out of his minds. He wanted to rip through her and make her moan with pleasure. He could remember every moan she let out at the motel. He hungrily kissed her with such passion that sent shivers down her spine. She was all wet and ready for him but Ben preferred to take his time. He broke away from the kiss and once again gazed at her breasts. He could see them moving up and down in unison with her heavy breaths. He bit his lips before he took her left nipple in his mouth and bit on it gently. Joss let out a soft moan but when he teased her right nipple between his fingers, she went crazy. She couldn’t keep herself from moaning loudly, calling his name over and over again. The loud music in the living room was the only reason why no one heard them. The more she moaned, the more Ben pleasured her. Ben kissed her from her bosom to her crotch, leaving a trail of wet marks on her body. She felt his warm breathes above her wetness. The feeling sent her moaning again. He wanted him inside of her at that moment but Ben couldn’t give in. Instead, he licked through her slit from bottom to top. She could feel the best orgasm building up inside of her. Ben couldn’t control himself any longer. He placed himself in position to enter her. He slowly slid inside of her
easily from her wetness. Orgasm ripped through her body and she screamed his name. Ben slid in and out of her slit, feeling every inch of her body. The two moved in unison for a few minutes before Ben lay on his back while she rode him. He couldn’t control himself as he watched her lower her body onto him. They were covered in sweat and for the last time, they both climaxed simultaneously leaving them panting while they held each other. One hour later, they were startled by Lisa calling Ben all over the house. Greg had noticed that they were both missing and had tried to spare sometime for Joss and Ben. But she had run out of patience and started looking for him all over. “Ben, wake up.” Greg had sneaked into her room and found both of them sleeping soundly. “What?” Ben asked as he awoke. “Lisa is looking for you all over. Really, you brought your fiancée and now you’re here?” Greg asked as he handed him his clothes. “Calm down man. I hope you are good if I am seeing Joss.” Ben asked as he pulled on his shirt.
“I don’t have a thing for her but as long as you are engaged, I would like you to keep off man. She is too delicate and you will break her.” Greg warned. As much as he loved his cousin, he did not want him to hurt Joss. He loved her. “Relax man; you know how these things are.” Ben insisted. “I know Ben. You chose money over your own happiness. Now you see what it has gotten you into. I chose my own life; remember how my dad disowned me?” Greg said. All this time Joss was listening to the two of them argue. She was amazed on how protective of her Greg was. “I know man, but it’s not that easy.” Ben said. “It is as easy as saying enough is enough. Ben, know where you stand before you can go ahead and break people’s hearts. I didn’t mind the rest but she is my friend.” Greg insisted before he left the room. Ben looked at Joss who closed her eyes. He thought she was asleep. He put on his clothes, and went to the bathroom to freshen up. He was stuck between choosing to be with Joss and being the CEO of Brighton telecommunications. He had always wanted to become head of the family business but his father had told him to get married first, and get married to Lisa. He didn’t want to lose his fortune, how was he going to live without his money?
“I just wish I had a clear way out of this.” He murmured before he left Joss’ room. Joss woke up and headed for the bathroom. She needed to freshen up before going back to the party. She turned on the shower and felt the water fall on her soft skin. She closed her eyes and remembered every single moment that Ben made love to her. She knew from that moment she was slowly falling in love with a man she hardly knew anything about. Lisa had figured out that Ben and Joss had been missing at the same time. When Ben went back to the party, she handed him a drink. “And where have you been Ben?” Lisa asked. “I was getting some fresh air.” He lied. “You took so long out there.” She continued. “Sometimes it’s just right to be alone for a while you know.” He continued. “I hope you weren’t with that trump Joss.” She said as she left him to go get herself a beer. He knew that at some point in his life, he would have to make a choice. For the very first time in his life, he was feeling something for a woman. He had always played around but never had he fallen for a woman like he had fallen for Joss.
He didn’t even try to go after Lisa. He was getting tired of her constant nagging and jealousy. She knew well that Ben had never been in love with her but she acted like it. She had been raised in England just as he had been. Her dad was the CEO of a sister company to Brighton Telecommunications. They had been family friends since childhood but Ben never really wanted to be associated with her at all. She was the reason why he couldn’t stay away from home and yet he didn’t know how to live without his parent’s money.
Chapter 9 Joss finally came to the living room. Most people were already so drunk but Greg and Ben seemed to be just fine. She took the space where Greg was seated. “Hey,” She said. She was a little embarrassed for going to bed with Ben even after he had warned her against it. “Hey sleepy head.” He smiled at him. “I heard what you told Ben back there. I am a little ashamed of myself for sleeping with him once more but I just can’t help it.” She continued. “He is a good guy, he just needs to come around and start his own life.” Greg said. “Thank you for looking out for me Greg.” She said, taking a sip from Greg’s beer. “Hey, get your own beer.” Greg joked. They laughed at that before Ben came to join them. He stood in front of Joss and smiled at her. She smiled right back.
“Get a room, please.” Greg said as he noticed the tension in the air. He had always known from the way Joss described Ben, she would eventually fall for him just that it was happening faster than he had hoped for. “Trust me, we are trying,” Ben retorted. Lisa came back and found the three laughing. She had been hurt. Despite knowing too well that he was not in love with her, she loved him and was determined to make him marry her. Whatever it took, she had sworn to fight for what she wanted. “I see you guys are having fun, huh.” She said sarcastically. She reached for her purse and took out her check book. “How much is it going to take you to leave my fiancé alone?” She asked, looking at Joss. “Stop it Lisa. She hasn’t done anything to you.” Ben interrupted. “Like she hasn’t. Ben, since we came here you haven’t bothered where I have been. You can’t even look at me.” Lisa said, almost shedding tears. “It’s because I am not clingy Lisa. I am not always on your neck like you are. I need some space sometimes.” Ben said angrily. He was pissed off with her behavior. “And by the way, some things cannot be bought using money.”
“Oh, I thought she is just a cheap whore looking for some cash.” Lisa said, looking at Joss from head to toe. “Hey, careful what you say lady.” Joss knew she had to stand up for herself at this moment. “I may not have been raised a millionaire but at least am not chasing someone who doesn’t want me.” She added. “What did you just say?” Lisa asked, putting her purse down, in preparation to attack Joss. “Ladies, ladies, this is not your fight to fight. We all want something and we go for whatever matters to us. So Ben, chose who you want to be with, it’s not worth fighting over this.” Greg interrupted, holding Joss’. “Actually you’re right Greg.” Joss was saying. “Ben, you want a life where you don’t want to ever work for anything? Here, you have Lisa to go home with but this is who I am. I would never choose money over my own happiness.” She said. Ben had not been aware that she had been listening to them earlier. He was caught up in the middle. “I just can’t make that choice now you know.” Ben was saying when Joss interrupted.
“It’s not a thinker Ben, you want your money, and this is how the rest of your life looks like. You are going to spend your life running away from home simply because you are stuck with the wrong person.” Joss said. “The only wrong person her is you Joss. I have grown up with Ben; I know every little thing about him. Things you will never know about him.” Lisa said. “It’s good you know everything about him but you are missing the point here; you don’t make him happy. He is not in love with you. Now choke on that” Joss said, leaving the room. She went to where she had kept the whiskey she had bought that morning. She poured herself a little and drank it in a flash. “You may want to slow down on that Joss.” Greg warned as he held her by her shoulders. “The last time I drank this thing I puked my heart out. You should have seen Ben holding my hair back. I was wasted.” She said in a loud laughter. Ben and Lisa were still arguing in the living room until Ben got irritated and walked out on her. He joined Greg and Joss in the kitchen. He also poured himself a glass of whiskey.
“You know what guys, you are right. I need to look into my life and get control over it.” Ben said. “And I choose you.” He said. “You what?” Joss asked him. It wasn’t anything she had expected to come from him. “I know it sounds crazy and am not drunk,” ben insisted. He needed to be happy, at least once. “Where is Lisa?” Greg asked. “She just drove off. We broke up.” Bed said. “I am so sorry you guy broke up. I didn’t mean that you should break up, it’s just that sometimes you have to risk everything you’ve got just to be happy.” Joss said. “It’s okay. That was no way to live. I am switching odd my cell phone. My dad is going to be so mad at me.” Ben said. Joss caressed softly on his arm to reassure him. “I know you will deal with it over time.” Greg said. “I dealt with my dad. Remember the day he literally threw me out of the house when you guys watched? I didn’t know what to start but am doing just fine.”
“You should have seen your face that night. It was priceless.” Ben laughed at him. “You should look at your face right now. Who’s laughing now?” Greg teased. “I think we should get super drunk now that everyone is gone. You will deal with your dad tomorrow when you’re hangover as hell.” Joss suggested. Everybody grabbed a tot glass and the fun started. They tossed at anything and in two hours, they were all drunk to the ground. All Ben could say was Joss’ name. He had never been drunk like he was that night. Greg passed out on the couch and left Joss and Ben who were making out on the floor. She had never felt that attracted to someone like she was attracted to Ben. She held his hand and they both staggered their way to her bedroom. She dropped him on the bed and started kissing him wildly. There must have been something about Ben that kept her hooked on him. He was so aroused and at the same time drunk. Joss kissed her way to his bulging crotch. She undid his jeans and released his erection. Without much hesitation, she wrapped her lips around him and started rolling her tongue on his tip. Ben grunted with pleasure. She then took him in her mouth moving up and down, slowly at first but increased her pace. Ben grunted and called her name but she wouldn’t stop. He grabbed by the head to slow her down. He then picked
her up and laid her on the bed. He quickly came on top of her and entered her in one thrust. She let out a loud moan but Ben continued. He increased his pace and force until they collapsed on the bed and finally fell asleep. That was the best night of Ben’s life. He had never been free of his parents and Lisa. He had let them control his life even as an adult. That morning, Ben woke up to switch on his phone only to get his father’s emails. He had been mad the whole night since Lisa called him to tell them what had happened. His parents could not understand how Ben could have been that stupid to fall for a peasant. How on earth could he betray his father’s trust in him? He had chosen to go away and that was it. His mother had left him a voice message; You may run away Ben but you will never find a woman like Lisa. I will be coming to your cousin’s the first thing morning. Before he finished listening to the messages, Greg knocked on their bedroom door. He pushed it open. “Hey, your mother is here. You’re in for it.” Greg warned. Ben woke up and dressed up before he went to the living room. His mother and her assistant were standing in the middle of the room.
“Hey mom.” He said, pretending like nothing was really wrong that morning. “So you want to tell me whatever happened between you and Lisa?” She was angry with him. “Mom, she wasn’t the person who I wanted to be with.” Ben tried to explain himself but his mother cut him short. “And whoever put all that nonsense in your head?” His mother asked. “You are going to her place and apologize to her. She will take you back and everything will go back to normal. And that’s solved.” She turned to live the house but Ben called her out. “Mom, that is never going to happen. I really want to live my life my own way.” He said. At this point he didn’t fear his mother like he used to. “I am taking away everything from you.” She threatened before exiting the apartment. “Are you okay, Ben?” Joss had been listening to the conversation but had decided not to interrupt. It was Ben to fight for whatever he believed in. “Yeah,” Ben said. Looking out the window, his mother burned down his motor cycle, the only asset he had acquired on his own. “My mother is crazy.” He sighed before going back to bed. It felt like something had been lifted off
his shoulders but he knew he had to look for a job, or a way to live without depending on his cancelled credit cards. “And the life begins.” Greg teased. “Hey, it’s all going to work out man. Actually if you need a job, the restaurant has an open position for bartending.” “Oh, really? I have never done that in my life before.” Ben interjected. “We all start from somewhere Ben.” Joss said, placing a soft kiss on his lips. “Yes. She is right.” Greg added. A few weeks later, Ben had settled in well at his new job. His parents had not talked to him since he broke up with Lisa but he was happy. They would go to work together and get back home all together. One morning, Joss woke up feeling sick and worn out. She had been feeling fatigued for days now until she decided to go to the hospital. Greg was happy to drive her to the hospital since Ben was working that day. The doctor looked at her after taking several tests on her. “Congratulations, you are expecting a child.” He said smiling at her.
Joss didn’t know whether to be happy or scared. She didn’t know what she was going to tell Ben. How could she have been that careless? Her life had just started and now she was carrying another life inside of her. “I am pregnant?” That was all she managed to tell the doctor. She didn’t know what to say about it. Greg drove her back home but he noticed she was awfully quiet. “What’s with you?” He asked. “Nothing. The doctor says am just fatigued and I need to rest.” She lied. She had never been that scared all her life. She decides to tell Ben about the child that night after his shift. However, she was not sure how he was going to take the news. “Ben, we need to talk.” She said when he got home. “Hey, what’s wrong baby?” Ben asked in a concerned voice. “I am carrying your child.” She finally managed to say. “Wait, what?” he was startled and happy at the same time. He didn’t know what to say but he also couldn’t hide his joy. “Well?” Joss asked when Ben wouldn’t say anything.
“I have a surprise too, I got us an apartment three blocks from here.” He said, smiling from ear to ear. “That’s where we are going to raise our baby.” Joss smiled at him warmly and he kissed her on the lips. She had been doubtful about it but a part of her knew that Ben would not let her down. “I am going to be a father.” Ben kept saying all through dinner. He finally realized the meaning of life. Despite his parent’s disowning him, there was only one good thing going on in his life; the love of his life and the child they were expecting. They moved to their new apartment two weeks later and lived happily ever after.
