Infopack for EUROPEAN VOLUNTARY SERVICE 2017 with
and Associaciação Mais Cidadania (AMC) is a European Non-profit NGO that operates in Bairro Alto, Lisbon since 2003. AMC is a longtime partner of Semper Avanti and will, for the first time, host volunteers from this organisation. One of these projects is being hosted in Associação Renovar a Mouraria (ARM), a local partner of AMC. ARM was created on the 19th of March 2008 and develops its actions on the fields of social and community intervention, local development and cultural and artistic empowerment of the territory of Mouraria - one of the oldest districts of Lisbon. The mission of ARM is to improve the life conditions of the multicultural population of Mouraria. For that, we implement the following actions: - awareness raising activities - training sessions - reinforcement of skills aiming at the improvement of the populations’ financial conditions - community events (through arts, food, intercultural activities) - promotion of the historical, cultural and human heritage of Mouraria. We follow the daily changes of the territory (namely, with the flows of migrant populations establishing in Mouraria and also the touristification of the disctrict) and we try to have a positive role in the process of adaptation of the people of Mouraria to these changes, minimizing its negative impacts and potentiating its advantages.

PROJECT NAME The name of the EVS project is Make a Difference and it is coordinated by the Polish organisation Semper Avanti.
Within this project, there will be different EVS mobilities of youngsters, from Poland and to Poland. This infopack is about the long term EVS vacancy in Lisbon for a person living in Poland and and it will take place in Lisbon, Portugal from the beginning of September 2017 to the end of February 2018 (6 months). Semper Avanti (Poland) is the Coordinating and Sending organisation, Associação Mais Cidadania is the Hosting organisation and Associação Renovar a Mouraria provides the placement. CONTEXT
The district of Mouraria is a historical area in the centre of Lisbon, with a tradition of negligence by the political powers. With an ageing population and a vast and diverse migrant community (with over 50 registered nationalities living within its borders), Mouraria is the most multicultural district of the country. Recently, it went through a rehabilitation process implemented by the Municipality of Lisbon in cooperation with different actors in the civil society. This process has revitalized it and turned it into a place of touristic attention. Currently, it’s suffering a massive problem of real estate speculation, which is forcing many inhabitants out and favouring new hotels and touristic accommodation.
