The Unforgettable Billionaire Brothers: CHASE
Chapter One “Dammit!” Chase slammed down the phone in
his office and turned to look over the rain soaked city. His father had a way of ruining his plans without really trying. He needed to get the acquisition of Steele Tech complete by the end of the week, what he didn’t need was to drive two hours into the countryside for whatever new decree Vance Silver would make. Chase knew it would be a decree of some sort because his father Vance loved to make his boys dance, loved to tell them how to run the business even though they had been running it—successfully—for years with very little input from him. But Vance was also his father and he was getting old, so they all conceded to his wishes. He ran his hands through wavy brown locks and dialed for his assistant. “Brooke I need a moment, please.” Please dear god don’t let her be wearing another of those tight sexy librarian skirts. Chase didn’t know when it had happened but sometime during the past year he’d begun to notice his assistant. Hell, more than notice her. After five years working closely together he couldn’t stop thinking about her at work, or at home. In his dreams. Every. Single. Night. The way those skirts hugged her luscious ass and those fuzzy sweaters that clung to her breasts
and small waist, all of it drove him mad. So he started coming in early so he wouldn’t have to see her sparkling green eyes and plump pink lips curved in a smile just for him. He hadn’t seen her at all today and he was grateful for that, only now he had no choice. What a fucking joke, he thought to himself, remembering the handful of assistants that had come before Brooke. They were all interested in Chase and had gone to creative lengths to get his attention. “What’s up Chase?” Brooke walked, no she sauntered in and carefully sat down at one of the chairs in front of his large oak desk. His eyes were glued to her legs as she crossed one over the other. Brooke opened her tablet in a few swipes and looked to him for direction. “Chase? Sir? Is everything alright?” He was startled out of his daydream and pinched the bridge of his nose. “No Brooke I’m not alright. Vance called.” She nodded her understanding and he continued. “He has summoned me and my brothers to Silver House.” “Your country estate?” She had seen photos of the outside of the famed mansion in a gardening magazine at her grandmother’s house. There was a lavish rose garden, a wild English garden and a greenhouse. It was magnificent. She knew this trip
to the country couldn’t have come at a worse time for them. “I’ll reschedule your meeting with the Steele brothers and have the financials couriered to you as soon as they arrive.” He watched her swipe and tap the screen of the tablet resting on her lap, the perfect picture of efficiency. “Don’t bother. You can do it on the road. You’re coming with me.” Chase groaned at the seductive picture she presented, her flushed cheeks, those moist lips, the breathy gasp that left her succulent mouth. He felt his pants growing tighter under the desk and began to rethink bringing her with him. But he needed her. “Sorry Brooke but I need to work on this Steele Tech deal and I can’t do it without you. Who knows what Vance wants or how long we’ll end up staying.” She could see the frustration and stress on his handsome face, his blue grey eyes practically silver against the gloomy sky behind him. “Very well sir. I’ll need to go home and pack a bag, but first--,” Chase cut her off with a swipe of his arm across the air. “We don’t have time Brooke. Tell Rose everything she needs to cover your desk for at least a week, including where to send all information on Steele Tech. Call one of the Steele Brothers and see how they feel about meeting at Silver House and then we’ll stop at your place on our way out of town.”
She nodded as she rose from her seat careful to keep all emotion from her face. Back at her desk she plopped down and released a breath she didn’t even realize she had been holding. A week at Silver House with Chase Silver was a dream come true. At least it would be, if he realized she was a woman. Now however, it would just be torture.
***
They were close to Silver House. Brooke could tell because they were well into the countryside where people owned horses and each property was miles and miles apart. She sighed, happy to be here with Chase but not so happy that she’d had to cancel her date. She’d finally gotten the hint—5 years later—that nothing would ever happen between her and Chase and she had started to date again. Most of the guys were duds, like the financial planner who told her she had ‘breeding hips’, but Charlie was nice. And cute. And nice. And tonight would have been their third date. It was the sex date if she was being honest, but maybe cancelling was a blessing. She wasn’t ready for sex with Charlie, not when she still dreamed of hot, crazy dirty sex with Chase. She sighed again, this one thick with confusion and resignation.
“So you had a date this weekend?” Chase white
knuckled the steering wheel, angry for feeling jealous when he had no right to and angry that he had to right to feel anything about her personal life. She nodded but kept her gaze on the passing fields. “I didn’t know you were dating.” Because you never ask, she wanted to say but she didn’t. He was her employer not her friend so why would he? She shrugged. “How would you?” He said nothing and they continued to drive in silence. Tortured, uncomfortable silence. Thirty minutes later they turned onto the long tree-lined driveway of Silver House. Brooke gasped at the magnificence before her. It was a massive Georgian revival style mansion with red brick and pristine white shutters on the dozens of windows facing forward. Just slap on some columns and call this place Tara, she thought cynically as she eyed the mansion. “This is Silver House?” She huffed in disbelief, may as well call it a cabin if we’re going for understatement of the century. “Yeah my dad loves this house. My brothers and I grew up here so it’s no big deal.” “Yep, no big deal.” Who cared about things like three story mansions made totally of brick, real brick, hundreds of windows and probably dozens of
bedrooms. This place was beautiful, if a tad ostentatious. Inside Silver House was even more gorgeous than the outside. The foyer was gargantuan, with a few marble busts and big dark oil paintings, but of what she could see so far the place was warm and inviting. Dark woods, earthy masculine colors and subtle accessories were everywhere. Brooke decided instantly that she loved Silver House. “We should head to the study, I’m sure that’s were Dad is.” Brooke followed quietly, taking in every detail as she passed each room. Familiar artwork dotted the walls and detailed sculptures lined the long hallway they walked until she heard voices. “Sounds like one of my brothers beat us here.” Inside the study Vance sat in a chocolate leather club chair swirling amber liquid in a crystal glass while he and the youngest Silver brother, Jackson laughed together. “Ah Chase, you’re here. And you’ve brought a guest.” Vance smiled sweetly at Brooke. “Is that Brooke?” She returned his smile. “It’s me sir, how are you?” Vance beamed a smile at her that belied his advanced age. Dimple winking and violet brown eyes sparkling. “I’m an old man Brooke but seeing
your face is a balm to my weary soul.” She laughed at his flowery words. “Then I’m glad I could help a not-so-old man out.” She winked back and he laughed. “I like this one Chase. Keep her.” A gorgeous ice blonde with porcelain skin and mile high legs walked in with a cart full of goodies that made Brooke’s mouth water. “Thanks Galina. You can leave that here so we can serve ourselves. No need to be so formal this week it’s just family,” he winked a Brooke. “But I would like you to put Brooke and Chase in the green and gold rooms. She nodded her understanding and they followed her upstairs. Chase was happy with his position at the back of the line since it afforded him an up close and personal view of Brooke’s fine backside. It was a thing of beauty the way it swayed to its own rhythm with every step she took. He was mesmerized by the hypnotic sway, so much that he failed to notice she stopped at the landing and he smacked right into her. She gasped when his large hands circled her waist to steady her and the fire in his body stirred to a raging inferno. “I’ve got you,” he whispered in her ear, smiling at the small shiver that shook her body. “Uh, yeah okay. Thanks,” she muttered before crossing the threshold into her room. The green room.
“Dinner is in an hour, I will come and get you
then,” Galina spoke in stilted English, her accent thick and enchanting. “Thank you Galina.” Brooke smiled at the small grin that lit up the housekeeper’s stunning face. “My room is right next door,” Chase added with a smug smirk on his face. “I’ll pick you up for dinner.” He winked and left her staring at the empty space with a stunned look and flushed face.
Chapter Two “No
way Dad. No way in hell!” Ethan, the middle Silver brother, arrived after dinner for his father’s latest attempt to control their lives. The old man was crazy if he thought he could manipulate them this way. “I’m with Ethan, Dad. This is crazy even for you.” Jackson was in no mood for his father’s games. He would settle down when he was good and damned well ready and not a moment sooner. Hell he was just 27 and that was way too young to settle down. Chase said nothing. He was as angry as his brothers but there was no point getting angry when Vance would have his say anyway. He knew there was more to it so he sat, drink in hand, and waited. Vance Silver stood slowly and walked to the bar in silence. He sat his favorite crystal glass down, picking up two pieces of ice and dropping them with a loud clang into the glass. He reached for the decanter of Whiskey—Irish of course—pulled out the stopper and sniffed gently before pouring two fingers’ worth into the glass. “Now I know you boys are reluctant to settle down, especially with so many pretty young things offering their favors without commitment.” He took a sip and let them stew while he made his way back to the comfort of his
favorite chair. “But I would like to retire and I can’t do that while all three of you are out tomcatting around like you’ve just discovered your peckers.” “No offense Dad but my sex life is none of your business.” Ethan’s fury was barely controlled, his violet brown eyes narrowed into Vance’s identical pair. “You may be right about that boy. But Silver Enterprises is my business and I’m not turning over my life’s work to men lead around by the short hairs. Prove to me you’re committed to SE and you’ll get your portion of the company. You will each have a one-third stake in the company when you do. Ignore my wishes and you get nothing.” “That is bullshit!” Chase roared causing all eyes to turn his way. “You’re a hypocrite on top of everything else,” he snorted in disgust. “All this talk of settling down when you don’t even keep a woman past the one year mark. That’s rich, real rich.” He slammed the glass down and stalked out of the study. “I’m not doing this dad. Ever. So you can divide up my shares between Jack and Chase.” Ethan looked defeated and angry as he left the room and that broke Vance’s heart.
He knew it was his fault that his boys were so down on love. After Chase and Jackson’s mother, Zoe died in a horrific boating accident he didn’t remarry. He couldn’t remarry, but he was still a young man with the needs of a young man. As a rich man he had his pick of the ladies and picked well and often. Chase was right, he had enjoyed sexual affairs with women but he never kept them for longer than a year. It was his choice to keep his relationships superficial with an expiration date. And now he was paying for it. But they didn’t get it and if they kept on this path they wouldn’t get it until it was too late. Vance knew he was an old man and he wanted beautiful daughters with loads of grandbabies bringing life and laughter back to Silver House. He was sick of the silence, the loneliness, the emptiness. Ethan, he feared, he might lose forever with this recent decision. The boy was as anti-marriage as they came and most of that fell on Vance’s shoulders, he knew. He’d enjoyed a brief affair with a paralegal which resulted in Ethan’s birth. A year after Zoe’s death Ethan’s mother killed herself and he came to live at Silver House. Despite the fact that he was born a year after Chase and a year before Jackson, the boys took to one another immediately. They were close and always had each other’s backs. But those were the only relationships Ethan gave a
damn about. He kept his women for no more than three dates and then he moved on. He’d hate for his boys to lose their birthright but he would hate it more if they followed his path and ended up lonely old men dating women young enough to be their daughters. Hell.

Chase was still fuming as he climbed the stairs to the gold room. He knew his dad loved to play the benevolent overlord but this was taking things too fucking far. He couldn’t think about that now, he had to work on the Steele Tech acquisition if he wanted it done by the end of this quarter. After a quick trip to his room he knocked on Brooke’s door and entered after a few muffled words and his heart rate doubled at the sight before him. Brooke, sexy and efficient Brooke was standing before him like a vision from the gods of lust and sex. Wearing nothing but a small scrap of black lace and a matching bra dangling from one arm, she wore a startled and slightly dazed expression at his intrusion. The heat in her eyes, Chase was sure, mirrored his own. He took in every detail he could absorb. Her full breasts with stiff raspberry tipped nipples,
that flat stomach tight with muscle and the flare of her hips calling out for his touch. Those high cut, barely there panties left very little to the imagination, giving him a glimpse of the small heart shaped patch of hair underneath made him clench his fists rather than run a finger up and down her sweet spot. He took one long look at the miles of leg on display before mumbling his apologies and shutting the door. “Shit,” he knocked his head on the heavy wood door behind him. “Brooke meet me in the library in thirty minutes.” He ran down the stairs as fast as he could as though he could outrun the image of his assistant looking like a walking wet dream. After three hours of almost total silence in the library, both Chase and Brooke were ready to call it a night. The work was done but the room was thick with tension, both thinking about what happened earlier. Chase couldn’t even look at her without seeing those sweet pink nipples begging to be tasted by his mouth, those long legs wrapped around his neck, his hips as he thrust into her over and over again. For her part Brooke kept replaying the heated look on his face as he took in her naked body. She knew she was decent to look at with lots of wavy dark blonde hair, bright green eyes and more curves than she would like, but the way Chase looked at her in that moment made her feel like she was as
beautiful as the women he was often photographed with at parties and fundraisers. Who are you kidding, he was simply reacting to a naked woman. Not you, she reminded herself. She had to remind herself time and again because she was moving on from her ill-advised crush on her boss. “Let’s call it a night. We’ve done all we can and we can send the contracts to the lawyers tomorrow for review.” He stood, shaking out his stiff muscles and held the door open for her. “I’m not going to argue with that.” She smiled shyly and slid carefully between his big body and the small doorway. She felt the heat of his body close behind her as she walked up the stairs, cringing at the thought of her big ass in such close proximity to his face. She quickly shook it off. If he doesn’t want to see it, he shouldn’t be so close dammit. At the door to the gold room she turned around to find Chase chest to chest with her. “What time should I,” Before she could say another word Chase’s hands cupped her heart shaped face and his lips were on hers. Gentle at first and then hot and intense as he claimed her lips. His tongue worked magic on her mouth, inside her mouth, sending sparks of desire and electricity shooting throughout her entire body and centering at her increasingly
wet core. She leaned in and pressed her body against his bigger, harder body and she let him own her mouth. It was a heady feeling to be the sole focus of Chase Silver and his wicked mouth and Brooke soaked it all in, giving as good as she got. A moan split the silence and she realized it was her but she didn’t give a damn. Chase was kissing her, taking over her mouth as though it was his. She could feel her arousal growing, the telltale moistening between her legs, her nipples hard to the point of pain. And she felt Chase pull away from the kiss. A dark frown marred his gorgeous face, his eyes more grey than blue at the moment and her heart sank. He regrets the kiss. She stood stock still as he frowned and muttered a barely audible, “goodnight” before slamming the door behind him. Tears welled in her eyes, rejection washing over her like a warm suffocating blanket. She couldn’t believe it, she had come so close to forgetting about him and his handsome face and fun loving smile and he’d sucked her right back in with that hotter than hell kiss, only to frown in disgust like she was some ugly mutant. Well to hell with you Chase Silver and your bone melting kisses! Two hours later and Brooke’s devastation and rejection turned into white hot anger. She’d been at a slow boil for the first hour after his door slammed on her heart and her ridiculous crush, but now she
was just pissed off. How dare he make her feel like she was one of his discarded lovers, she was his assistant dammit. At times she thought they might even be friends but now she knew. She knew she would always and forever be his trusted assistant. The woman who made reservations for his dates with other women, sent breakup flowers and gifts to the discarded women and intercepted angry postbreakup calls. She was fine with that. She was. Really. What she wasn’t fine with, however, was her boss ramming his tasty tongue down her throat and then storming off as if she’d done something wrong. With all her pacing she had worked herself up to a good bit of mad and she knocked on the door adjoining their rooms to confront him.
Chapter Three He heard the quiet yet insistent knocks at his door and went to open it, sure it was one of his brothers wanting to commiserate over Vance’s high handed behavior. It was Brooke. Correction, it was Brooke wearing a pair of impossibly tiny emerald silk shorts with a matching lace top. It covered almost nothing and he was so mesmerized by all the flesh on display that he failed to notice the angry glint in her green eyes or the aggressive stance she took across from him. “My eyes are up here.” He looked up at the icy tone and the smile died on his face. “Can I help you Brooke?” “Not hardly. But you can tell me what the hell you were thinking earlier?” His shoulders slumped. He knew kissing her was a bad idea but he hadn’t been able to help himself. He’d swear he had been hypnotized by the sexy swing of her hips and the curve of her ass and when she turned around her mouth was like a magnet to his own. “I don’t know what I was thinking Brooke, but I am,” She placed a finger on his lips to quiet the apology she knew was coming. “I don’t want your fucking apology Chase. What I want to know,” she pushed at his chest, “is why you kissed me until I
damn near came and then looked at me like it was the worst experience of your life?” Chase’s golden brows furrowed in confusion. That’s what she thought? He didn’t know whether to let her believe that nonsense or correct her, so he stood staring with his mouth opening and closing as he searched for the right words. “I didn’t.” Smooth Chase, real smooth. Her arms were crossed in frustration but Chase could only notice the way her dark pink nipples pebbled under the transparent top and the way her breasts swelled over the top. “You know what, Chase? Forget it. Just forget it.” She turned and grabbed the handle, done with Chase and this conversation. He reached out for her wrist and yanked her back. “I don’t think so. You wanted to talk so we’ll talk. My way.” He spun her in his arms and claimed her mouth once again. This time the kiss went from hot to my panties are on fire in about two seconds and Brooke knew she was lost to her own desire. When his hands came down to cup her ass, she jumped up and wrapped her legs around him. Moments later she was weightless as they fell on the bed, his big body and aching hardness cushioning her fall. She groaned as she took control of the kiss and rocked against his erection.
“You feel so good Chase,” her voice was husky
and breathless as she continued to rock against him. Chase looked up at the woman straddling him and he thought she never looked more beautiful than she did at this moment. Her hair was mussed from his hands, lips swollen from his mouth. Pussy wet from kisses. “No sweetie, that’s all you.” He lifted the lace top over her head and swirled his tongue around the sweet nipples calling out to him. Back and forth he licked and laved, he sucked and he blew, he bit her nipples until her shorts were soaked with her desire. He released her nipple with a pop, smiling at the groan she released and nudged her hips forward until her knees rested on either side of his face. “Mm, you smell so damn good Brooke. I’ll bet you taste even better.” Before she could respond she felt his hot breath fan over her wet, swollen and sensitive lips. “Chase,” she moaned as her hips begun to move on their own, back and forth, faster and slower, over his face as his mouth worked her body into a heated frenzy. She heard the sensual moans but they couldn’t be coming from her, she’d never made such noise in her life! Chase held those silky shorts to one side swiped his tongue over her clit and into her opening, sucking her lips and nipping the clit with
her teeth until he felt her thighs tremble and her pussy quiver. She was close and he was about to take her over the edge. “Let go sweetie,” he encouraged and held her hips as the waves of orgasm crashed over her, spilling her sweet honey onto his tongue and all over his face. He drank her up until she began to sag against him and flipped her over until he was on top of her, his heavy weight pressing her sensitive core and causing aftershocks to shake her body. Brooke held a hand to cup his stubbled jaw. “Take me now Chase. I need you inside me.” He didn’t need to be told twice. He was naked and sheathed before her silk shorts hit the carpet and positioned at her still dripping pussy. “You ready for me baby?” Her nod was all he needed to slowly sink into her tight warmth until he could go no deeper. “Ah shit Brooke. So tight and wet. So. Good.” With her legs wrapped tightly around his waist Chase picked up the pace, thrusting deeper and faster, pushing harder against her body until they were both slick with sweat and short of breathe. Her nails scored his biceps, his teeth worried her nipples, her neck, her earlobes until she was a quivering mass of nerves and feelings beneath him. He pumped and pumped, keeping up a punishing pace until her pussy squeezed tight around him and his balls tightened. They both
floated up, up, up until that invisible barrier broke and allowed them to come back down to earth at their own leisurely pace. There was a strange, otherworldly feeling that washed over Brooke as her body came down from that magnificent orgasm, never feeling so sated in all her life. Chase was a master and her body the instrument he had mastered. “Wow. Amazing Chase. Just. Amazing. Yeah.” She slowly drifted off, the pleasure too much to do more than close her eyes.
***
The next morning at the breakfast table was… awkward. Vance was already settled at the head of the table when Brooke entered the dining room. Her face flushed at his knowing wink and she turned her attention to the sideboard—an actual sideboard!—to pile eggs and bacon on her plate. She had worked up quite an appetite last night, and again this morning she thought with a smile and she needed to replenish her calories. Her sore muscles screamed when she sat down and sent another blush up her chest, face and ears. How embarrassing to have your boss who is also your lover’s father, witness your
soreness from a night of raunchy sex. “Good morning Mr. Silver.” He chuckled at her nervousness. Vance was pretty sure she didn’t realize every thought she had was written all over her pretty little face. “Good morning Brooke. Please call me Vance while you’re a guest in my home.” This time her smile beamed, lighting up the entire room. “Sure thing Vance.” Next into the room came Jackson and Ethan, looking more handsome than any two men should and just as grumpy. They both growled morning greetings to Brooke and Vance before they made a beeline to the sideboard. She wasn’t sure what had the men so irritated this early in the morning so she focused on her breakfast and the strange twist of events from last night. Goodness, sleeping with her boss was the dumbest, greatest most satisfying thing she had ever done. But it was without a doubt dumb. Really, really dumb. She liked her job, dammit she loved it and she was good at it. If things went south, when things went south she would lose her job. It would be best to pretend that last night never happened. Well to at least place it inside the little box inside in her memory and break it out during those long, lonely nights. Chase came in later looking devastatingly handsome, if a little tired, in dark grey jeans and a
sky blue sweater. He strolled in looking distracted and grumpy and delicious. And he barely looked at her. Well that was just fine with her. She didn’t need him to look at her, to acknowledge her or what they did last night. And this morning. She already decided that pursuing anything—physical or romantic—would be a mistake so it was good that he obviously had decided the same thing. Good. Great. Vance’s loud voice boomed in the silent dining room. “I hope you boys have given some thought to what I said last night.” His gaze landed on each of them, scrutinizing them before laughing aloud. “Excuse me,” Brooke mumbled as she pushed back her chair and practically sprinted through the door and around Galina. She turned left instead of right and ended up in the kitchen and directly in front of warm cranberry orange muffins. She grabbed one and slipped out the backdoor and into the early morning sun. The property was beautiful with sprawling greens and golds in every direction. She didn’t know which way to start exploring but she spotted the top of a greenhouse and took off in that direction with a muffin in one hand and a blanket cinched around her to protect her from the cold in her other hand. Her steps were slow and deliberate, her eyes glued
to the sun as it painted a pink and orange path across the sky. She was lost in her thoughts of Chase, of the upcoming merger with Steele Tech, of the way he’d made her feel last night. She was so lost she didn’t hear the footsteps quickly approaching. “Hey, wait up!” She turned and saw Chase running towards her, out of breath. “What are you doing out here?” Her arms were crossed, in a defensive posture, and also to keep out the cold. “I wanted,” he stopped to catch his breath, “to talk to you.” She waved her hand and her muffin, dismissively at him. “There’s no need. We had one night. One fantastic night.” She grinned up at him. “But just one night all the same. No harm, no foul. Okay?” She turned towards the greenhouse without waiting for his response. “Dammit Brooke wait up!” He jogged until his stride matched hers. She didn’t slow down or turn to look at him. She walked with her face tilted toward the sky, a serene expression on her face. She was so damned beautiful, especially in her contained anger, he felt an ache in his chest just looking at her. Last night had been unbelievable. It was more intense and passionate than any sexual
encounter he’d ever had. Brooke was so giving, so open in her lovemaking that it had blown his mind. The way she looked at him with those drowsy green eyes so full of passion and heat had sent his need for her into the stratosphere. Just thinking of it now was making things uncomfortable. He reached for her upper arm and stopped. “What’s wrong? Do you regret last night?” Brooke gave him that long suffering look that all executive and personal assistants eventually perfected. “Nothing is wrong and no I don’t regret last night. It was incredible.” Her expression and words didn’t match up, she knew, but it didn’t matter. Today Brooke had to worry about Brooke. “So why won’t you talk to me?” “I just did. Twice. What else do you want me to
say?” Huh? “I don’t want you to say anything if you don’t want to. But I’d like to know what’s going through your mind. I thought last night was fucking amazing. I’ve never come so hard or had such an intense experience. And you. Shit Brooke you were like a goddess come to life under my hands, my mouth. My cock. It was the best damn time I ever had in bed and I’d like, very much, to repeat it as often as possible.”
Well shit. What was she supposed to say to that? “Oh.” Real smooth, Brooke. Really. “That’s all you have to say, Brooke? ‘Oh’?” His hands did a few sweeps of his already mussed hair. “Jeez woman,” he growled deep in his throat, yanking her body flush against his and took her mouth against his own. The kiss was quick and fiery and a little rough, but damn it was hot. He knew she couldn’t fight chemistry and he smiled against her lips when her arms snaked around his neck. The kiss was savage, teeth mashing together, tongues battling for dominion over the kiss, mouths melting into one indistinguishable unit. Brooke pulled back, panting, trying to get her breathing back to normal. When Chase moved to recapture her lips she held her hands up to stop him. “No Chase. We can’t.” “We already did.” Damn that smile with those dimples and twinkling eyes, looking greyer against the burning sun. “Yes we’ve established that. But,” she shivered when his teeth grazed her earlobe. “But what?” His wicked tongue swirled around the shell of her ear and down her neck. She broke free of his hold and trudged towards the greenhouse but Chase reached for her wrist and
pulled her in the opposite direction. “I want to show you something.” She looked at that smug smile and thought, I’ll bet. “What, your etchings?” His laughed disturbed the birds, causing them to fly out in every direction. “Not quite but maybe later.” He found the door covered by ivy and overgrown grass. “Here we go,” he opened the door and Brooke gasped. “A wild English garden! It’s gorgeous!” She ran past him through the doors and soaked up every detail. The rainbow of purples, reds, greens, yellows and oranges were a sight to behold as the sun’s angle cast them in perfect light. “It’s beautiful,” she whispered reverently. “No you’re beautiful Brooke,” he whispered in her ear and wrapped his arms around her body from behind. “So fucking beautiful. I ache for you,” his hands roamed up her hips and over her waist, not stopping until they were cupping her perfect breasts. “Chase,” she moaned. “Yes.” Brooke knew she should be saying no to him. There was a very good reason to say no. But she couldn’t remember the reason at the moment, could barely remember to breathe as his hands found her nipples and his tongue played that sensitive spot behind her ear.
She felt his hardness pressing against her ass and she wished they were somewhere, anywhere else naked so she could bend over feel him thrust into her from behind over and over and over again. He twirled her around, his mouth eager for another taste of her. “Come here Brooke. Let me taste you.” He pushed her shirt up and her bra cups down and wrapped his tongue around the perfect pink tip of her breast. Her swift intake of air went straight to his cock and he ground against her. “Chase.” “I’ve got you sweetheart.”
His whisper caressed the skin between her breasts, torturing her as he switched to the other. “No. Chase,” she patted his shoulders. “I heard something.” He chuckled. “Of course you did, this garden is practically a forest.” “No, dammit. Someone is over there,” she pushed him away from her and pointed to the trees beyond the garden. “I saw the glint of a camera or a gun.” “A gun Brooke? You watch too many movies.” She tucked her shirt back in, glaring at him. “The guy who says that usually ends up shot first.”
He groaned at the flirty smirk on her kissable mouth and looked closer. He did hear rustling that was too careful to be wildlife and then he saw it. The glare Brooke saw was a camera lens. “Sonofabitch!” He grabbed her arm a little roughly and practically dragged her all the way to the house.
*** “It could have been paparazzi.”
Ethan shot Jackson a look that said are you kidding me. “If it was a tabloid photog they wouldn’t let something as insignificant as being caught stop them. Hell that would just encourage them.” He turned his gaze from the rolling grey clouds falling over Silver House and looked to his brothers. “This is personal.” “Overreact much?” Jackson finished off his drink and stood. “People are always trying to get pictures of us, of Vance and of Silver House so what’s the big deal?” They both took in the look on Chase’s face. “Shit Chase, you’re doing Brooke?” Ethan shook his head, disbelief evident. He shook his head. “No but we were having a conversation that was…personal in nature. On film
it could easily be misconstrued.” Both brothers nodded knowingly. “Besides they were on our property and it could have been Brooke out there alone,” he turned to Jackson, “or Galina. Look this could be some overzealous photographer or it could be a crazed stalker.” The tense silence hung in the room as they thought about the stalker who broke into the house when they were children. They had come home from school one day and a wild eyed woman was cooking in the kitchen and telling them ‘mother made cookies’. When they politely reminded her their mothers were dead, she pulled a large kitchen knife and wouldn’t leave until the police showed up. “I’ll get Cade on it.” Ethan said, referring to the private investigator retained by SE. He was the best and he would get to the bottom of this soon. Ethan said nothing else and abruptly left the room.
Chapter Four Two days later Brooke and Chase had finished looking over the contract changes recommended by the lawyers. Well she had finished looking them over and Chase was still nibbling her ear, his arms a muscled rope around her middle. She’d tried—in vain—for the last few days to keep her distance. She knew that getting involved with him was bad for her heart and her future, and she tried, she really did, to stay away from him. But Chase was like his billionaire brothers and their billionaire friends. He didn’t just walk away when there was someone or something he wanted. He fought and he was relentless until the easiest course of action was surrender. Brooke would not surrender to him. She’d lusted and longed for him for five long, painful, heartbreaking years and nothing. Not one heated glance or sexually tense moment, not even a little light flirtation with Jeanne the seventy year old receptionist even got. So she knew this was convenience. None of his socialites, models or actresses was available while he was at Silver House. She was. That thought made it easier to steel herself against his advances, his sweet masculine scent and that magic mouth. “This isn’t going to work Chase. You’re my boss.”
“I was your boss yesterday in the pantry. I was
your boss last night in your bed, your shower. I was your boss this morning when you let your honey drip over my face and into my mouth.” She flushed feverishly at his words. Damn that was hot! “That may be true,” she began. “It is,” he cut her off. His voice less playful than it was a moment ago. “Okay so I’m attracted you and my body doesn’t know any better. But Chase my mind does. So does my heart.” “Since your body is already convinced, let me convince the rest of you. Let’s date and see how it goes.” She crossed her arms and turned to face him. “And if it doesn’t go well, then what? Am I out of a job?” His expression turned cloudy. “Is that what you’re worried about? You must think I’m some kind of ass if you think I’d fire you for breaking up with me.” Chase cupped her cheeks gently, eyes focused completely on her own. “If it doesn’t work out we obviously can’t work together. But I’ll move you to another department so you can keep your job.”
Brooke was seething. So he thought he could just displace her like a piece of inconvenient furniture. Of course he did, he barely thinks about you beyond fetching his coffee and making his dates. “So I’ll get demoted which means I’ll never move up in SE and no place will ever hire me. That’s your solution? I have to say Chase none of that is all that enticing.” “So you’d be okay working for me even if we don’t work out?” She nodded slowly. Would she be okay with that? “Yes.” I think. “But I think it’d be callous to have me make reservations for your dates and buy break up gifts for your girlfriends.” Chase nodded. He could agree with that, even if it did make his life a bit more difficult. But he didn’t care, dammit. Everything he wanted at the moment was sitting a foot away from him with fiery green eyes, flushed cheeks and eyes glazed over with desire. For him. “Deal.” He smiled and leaned his weight onto her until he was cradled between her sweet spot, his lips on hers. After he kissed her silly he pulled back and looked at her gorgeous heart shaped face. “I’ll pick you up for our first date at eight.” “Where are we going?”
He smiled at her breathless voice, pleased that he was the one to make her feel that way. “It’s a surprise. Wear a skirt.”
***
The past few days with Chase had been unforgettable for Brooke. She knew that no matter what happened between them she would cherish this time they had together. They worked hard on the Steele Tech acquisition, they laughed together, they made the best love she’d ever experienced and he made her feel like the most beautiful creature in existence. It had been the most exciting days of her life and as stupid and ill-advised as it was, Brooke was starting to get long term, forever, happy ever after feelings. She was screwed. She was so screwed. And that was exactly why she was out again, this time in the chilly afternoon, using the concealed sunshine and crisp breeze to clear her mind. Shortly after lunch all four men locked themselves away in Vance’s office for some supersecret meeting that she wasn’t needed for so she headed outside. Away from Chase and the feelings he evoked in her, away from his scent, his easy
smile and away from that sparkling stare that always pierced her right in the heart. Dammit. She turned left at the greenhouse and lumbered through the rose garden. It really was a work of art decorated with tea roses, heirloom roses and a rainbow of roses she’d never seen. There were yellow, white, peach, pink, spotted and even a beautiful purple rose that smelled like a mix between a rose and lavender. It took her breath away so she lingered, closing her eyes and inhaling the unique scent each rose carried. It felt good to be out of the house and away from Chase. Into the fresh air instead of the stifling house where emotions were tense, secrets ran rampant and her heart was becoming more and more involved. She knew it was a mistake to fall for Chase. Again. She knew she would get hurt but she couldn’t seem to say no to him. Luckily they would be going back home soon. She hoped. And home meant she could reschedule her date and forget about Chase Silver. Her musings were interrupted by a familiar sound. The whir of a camera sounded again, this time louder and more noticeable. She kept her eyes closed and pretended to sniff the red tipped yellow rose before her so she could hear where the stealth photographer was shooting. There it was again, the click and the whir. It came from just behind her and
to the left. Brooke stood slowly and turned keeping her eyes on the flowers instead of the wild brush beyond. She turned and turned and turned and stopped. Her eyes caught on a slight figure in a black hoodie, an expensive looking camera protruding from their face. The hooded figure looked around the camera and held the gaze for a moment but his eyes were covered by large aviator sunglasses perched on his face, at least she assumed it was a he. He took a few more pictures and casually walked away. Brooke wasn’t so casual, she hauled ass through the rose garden and back around the greenhouse and down the long stretch of grass that lead to Silver House. She barreled into the kitchen past Galina and down the hall to where the men were and stopped in front of the large dark wooden door. She heard voices but they were muffled by the door so she did what any good assistant would do, she placed her ear right against the door. “I don’t see why you boys have your panties in such a twist. Settle down with a nice young woman and you can retain control of the company. Don’t and you’ll lose everything.” She heard the deep baritone of Jackson’s voice. “This is ridiculous dad. You can’t trust a
relationship built on the fear of losing our life’s work.” “Maybe,” Vance began. He looked at each of his sons thoughtfully. “But some of you can’t even see what’s right in front of you.” He sent Chase a pointed look. “Don’t look at me Dad. I’m single and I plan to stay that way for a long while.” Of course he does, she berated herself. She felt like an idiot. While she was having visions of happily ever after swirling in her head, he was seducing her for Silver Enterprises. He didn’t have to seduce you since you threw yourself at him, her inner voice taunted. The voice was right, she had pretty much thrown herself at him and Chase was only guilty of taking what she offered. “You’re lying to yourself son. Brooke is the perfect woman. She’s beautiful, intelligent and capable. She’ll make sure your home and work life runs like a well-oiled machine.” Brooke had heard enough. With all the anger that had built up in the last few minutes she ripped the doors open and stared at the two men responsible for the pain in her chest and the stinging behind her eyes. “I can’t believe you. Either of you!” She looked to Vance, disgust written on her face. “You think you can manipulate your sons to
make up for your mistakes.” She turned her attention to Chase. “And you! I made it really easy for you didn’t I? Fell into your bed so quickly you must’ve felt like it was Christmas morning. I’m sure the fact that I was in love with you for the past five years just helped make sure you kept your precious Silver Enterprises. Thank goodness you cured me of those affections.” Brooke turned to leave but stopped and turned, unwilling to let him see how close she was to tears. “You’ll have to find another love struck idiot Chase because I’m done. With you and with SE.” She shook her head at her own foolishness. “The reason I came in here was to tell you that some guy in a hoodie was taking pictures of me in the rose garden.” She turned and walked away. She had bags to pack.
Chapter Five The sound of her footsteps walking away from him grew quieter and quieter and Chase was sure that sound was a metaphor or something for his relationship with Brooke. “Dammit!” “Are you just going to stand her and curse a blue streak or are you going after her?” Vance’s eyes narrowed at his son, that shrewd look that intimidated competitors hung on his face like a work of art. “I didn’t take you for a coward, boy.” “I am not a coward.” His father said nothing, just raised one eyebrow in challenge. “I’m not!” His brothers tried and failed to stifle their laughter. “Screw you guys.” He finished his drink and left the room in a hurry, thundering up the stairs as if he was being chased. He wasn’t about to let Brooke run away from him, from them and what they could have. Damn Vance and his meddling. But he knew he couldn’t blame Vance entirely. He did have feelings for Brooke, had for at least the last year, but he should have told her about Vance’s newest plan. He threw open her door and took in the scene. Her long waves were tossed in a haphazard bun at the top of her head, eyes suspiciously glassy and a vacant expression on her face. His mind registered
the clothes in her hand and the open suitcase on her bed. She was leaving. “Going somewhere?” She didn’t spare him a glance as she worked. “I would think the answer to that is obvious.” He crossed his arms over his chest, one foot over the other ankle in a relaxed pose that betrayed the mess going on inside of him. “I didn’t take you for a coward Brooke.” “No you just took me for a fool and I played right into it.” Chase was getting more upset by the second. She wouldn’t look at him and although her words cut deep, her voice was blank, cold as if she couldn’t muster up enough effort to even care. “I didn’t Brooke, really. I have never taken you for a fool.” She sighed heavily and slammed her suitcase shut. “Look Chase its fine, really. You only took what I offered so don’t worry about it.” She shook her head, still upset she’d been a fool after she’d already resolved to forget Chase Silver. “Is that what you think? That you were just a convenience, a warm body?” The distraught look on his face tugged at her heart but she wouldn’t let it matter. Couldn’t let it matter. “What else should I believe? You never gave me the time of day since I started working for you and the week you decide to pay me a little attention
happens to be the same week your father tells you to find a woman to settle down with or lose your company? Excuse me if I find the timing a tad suspicious.” “You work for me! How could I have hit on you as your boss?” “I am still your employee. Aren’t I?” Damn that ice queen act was pissing him off. He wanted his sweet, warm Brooke back who welcomed him into her heart and her body. “Why are you being this way Brooke?” “I have to Chase because I need to protect myself.” He stepped closer until her scent wrapped around him and pulled him closer. “From me?” His heart ached when her shoulders slumped. “Yes Chase. From you. I’ve been in love with you for years and I’d finally decided to move on. Then you go and make me fall for you all over again and I find out it wasn’t real. So yes, I need to protect myself, my heart. From you Chase.” “So that’s it? I’ve already been tried and convicted?” She shrugged dismissively. It would be great to believe that the past week was real, that his feelings were real. But they weren’t and she’d always
question it. Brooke sat her suitcase by the door and turned back to Chase, her nipples pressed against his chest and she cursed her instant reaction to his nearness. “I’ll never forget the time we had together,” she gifted him a sad smile, her fingers curling into his hair. “It was wonderful, the best week I’ve ever had. But I’m in love with you and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. So this has to be goodbye.” She tightened her grip on the hair at the nape of his neck and pulled him down for a kiss that was sad, passionate, intense and like every other kiss between then, it quickly turned to something more. Chase’s hands rubbed their way down her back and wrapped around her ass, pulling her closer to him. He groaned when she sucked his tongue and nipped his bottom lip. “Don’t do this Brooke. Please.” She pulled out of his grasp. “I have to Chase. II’m sorry.” He pulled her back to him, his forehead pressed close to hers. “Okay fine, here it is. The reason I never…pursued anything with you is because I like you. Too much. I would rather have you in my life as my assistant than fuck things up with you and lose you forever.” He looked on in horror as a single tear streamed down her face and
disappeared at the shy smile that spread across her face. “Don’t cry baby. Please,” he urged. “I just, I don’t’ know. I mean.” She laughed nervously at her failed attempt to formulate a sentence. “Okay let’s try this again. I never thought I’d hear you say words like that to me.” The toothy grin that split his face somehow brightened hers as well and more nervous laughter followed. “Chase I really don’t want you to break my heart.” He pulled her closer, his hands never leaving the warmth of her ass. “Never. I couldn’t, wouldn’t ever do anything that would make this gorgeous face crumple with tears or sadness. I love you. A little more each day.” He captured her mouth in a kiss that quickly went from sweet and nice to hot and flammable within seconds. Before Brooke could respond to that heart melting declaration she was naked on the bed and Chase was poised at her entrance ready to love her body. “Now Chase,” she urged and cried out as he slid deep into her. She couldn’t say anything, could only feel when he grabbed one leg and hooked it over his waist so he could go deeper and deeper. He pulled almost all the way out and pounded into her over and over until she was panting and scratching his back and the bed sheets. He kept up the feverish pace until she squeezed him tight and her orgasm
washed over her and locked him in a tight grip that brought forth his own orgasm. They laid together, bodies still attached and breaths coming in too quickly. Brooke rubbed his back and his lips caressed her neck, her shoulders and then her mouth. “You taste so good.” He whispered and licked her neck again, smiling at the shivers that ran up and down her body. “So damn good.” She clenched around him and he groaned. “Okay you feel good too baby.” She giggled. “I love you Chase.” He looked at her and saw her love for him shining in her eyes, her smile. He felt it in the way she made love, the way she took care of him every day and gave him a hard time when he was being an ass. Yes his father was wrong to hold Silver Enterprises hostage but he was right about Brooke. She was damned perfect. “I love you too, Brooke. Always.” He rolled over so she was on top and she looked gorgeous with her head thrown back in ecstasy, golden hair cascading down her back, breasts thrust out inches from his mouth. “So fucking beautiful.” She smiled down at him, still circling her hips against him. “And so ready for a shower.” She separated their bodies with a wince and walked to the en suite bathroom. She looked over her
shoulder and caught him staring at her ass. “Join me?” He didn’t have to be asked twice.
Chapter Six “Dad I appreciate the sentiment of what you
were trying to do,” his brothers groaned across the dinner table from he and Brooke. “But you can’t hold the company hostage until we do what you want. Your meddling almost messed up things between Brooke and I.” He held up her hand and kissed the inside of her palm, smiling into her eyes. Vance raised his glass filled with amber liquid in their direction. “But it all worked out, didn’t it?” “It did,” Brooke smiled. “But only because I’ve had feelings for your son for a long time. If I was a new woman I could never trust his feelings for me were genuine or if I was just a means to an end. I hope you think about that with these two,” she tilted her wine glass toward Ethan and Jackson. Ethan shook his head. “Don’t worry about me because it isn’t happening.” Brooke noticed Vance’s smile dim at Ethan’s words but she had a feeling Jackson would be the next of the billionaire brothers to fall. He winked at Galina and she blushed before leaving the dining room. “Okay fine, I’ll back off. A little.” “That’s good news dad because I’ve found the woman I want to marry and make plenty of babies with,” he paused just to make his dad squirm. “But your meddling has created some issues so I’m not
going to rush my relationship with Brooke just to keep my job. A job I’m damned good at by the way.” The moment between them was tense. Vance stared at Chase with a blank look on his face and Chase stared back, his look giving away nothing. “Fair enough son.” He lifted his glass and toasted Chase and the woman he would marry. Soon, hopefully. “I’m glad to see you so happy. That’s all I wanted for you. Plus a few grandbabies for me.” Chase nodded in understanding. He knew his dad’s intentions were good but his execution left a lot to be desired. “Thanks.” Ethan finished off his whiskey and slammed his glass down much harder than was necessary. “All this love talk is great. Congratulations Chase and Brooke.” He looked around at each person at the table. They were his family. “But what are we going to do about the person stalking our family?” THE END
